Selecting 1st and 2nd

Hello all, changing gear in my vtr is getting hard, it seems it doesnt want to select 1st and 2nd first time, it takes a about 2-3 times to get it into them gears, any ideas on what this can be and what i should look for?

1st thing i would check is your gear linkages... These cheap and easy to replace..OR it could be your clutch..

when check gear linkages are they suppose to stay fixed or do they pivot on the ball it ??

I had this trouble when i first got my sax (only a 1.1 mind) and for me the problem turned out to be a little nut near where the linkages connect to the gearbox. It had come loose and was sticking out half a inch. So i screwed it back in and problem solved. Dont know if it will help or not but who knows.

Saxo-Mike I have also had to tighten them bolts on a Saxo before too.. But that was down too a really sloppy gearstick/popping out of gear.. Joe jack the car up and give everything a once over.

They pivot but quite firm.. Not moving about/sloppy.
