right...

i was planning on getting federal fz-201, but now it seem they have jacked the price up from 83 quid to 97 quid!!!!

so it now works out cheap to get 888's but there other option which are like a between fast road and semi slicks like ad08's and the federal 595rs-r's been reading that the 595 are close to the 888's but unsure it that right as the treadwear is totally different i.e. 595 are 140 treadwear.

but unsure as the ad08 and 595, are 70ish quid and the 888 and fz201 are 95-97 quid,

the yoko are like 116 everywhere!! so they are bit too high, just want a good track tires, so could do with some input really.

many other option, with prices, end off the day i am not going in competion, so want a good price tires that will offer a good feedback on the track, dnt fancy going over 100 quid, each so 400 quid is max,

many thanks

andy

yer i seen them too, would be a good option do they have stiff sidewalls? like the 888?

maybe go for them as they are 49 quid or soemthing and if they are not too good not too expensive and just burn them up.

AndySAXO
23rd October 2010, 12:34
yer they are good but really is 100 quid worth it? due to the treadwear really not worth it,

jamiemol
23rd October 2010, 12:41
i havent used a048's but they are meant to be better ive used 888s and they were very good were taking all the abuse i could throw at them at anglesey also had alot of tread left and anglesey in known for eating tyres

AndySAXO
23rd October 2010, 12:45
every track is known as a trye eater :P lol, well they all say that and brake killer!! hahaha

yer i know they will be very good like 888 but really are they all worth 100 quid a corner for abit off fun?

like when there are a few which would last longer and cheaper? i know you get what you pay for but i just weighting the option at the moment.

i would love the 201 really or 888's but just looking at option and input really.

listen to me andy, theses are the only tires you should be considering.
forget the price as they do actually work out cheaper in the end.

yoko a048r
kumho v70a
dunlop direzza d03g

just to add andy, this extra £££ your pumping into your engine for an extra 10-15bhp?? is MUCH less value for performance than buying a proper set of track tyres.

jamiemol
23rd October 2010, 12:51
also its the only thing of you car on the track why skimp on that and 100 quid a corner nothing with the fun you will have with them

yer where can i get dunlop ones? cant get a price for them,

i am not changing the engine now, but the engine lasted the trye wear so two or three session could see get a new set, the engine might change but not til next year now,

also its the only thing of you car on the track why skimp on that and 100 quid a corner nothing with the fun you will have with them

yer i understand but also seeing if there was a better tyre for valve for money end of the day,

also danny dont you rate the 888?

dannygti
23rd October 2010, 12:57
i do rate the r888 but they are by no means the best option. the tyres that i listed are the options i will be considering when i have to buy new ones.. im not even considering the r888 now.

edit:

there is a reason lotus use a048r's on their new cars and the radical set the 'ring "record" on the dunlops and the kumhos are getting rave reviews and tom rates them very highly and they will last 3 times longer than r888 wich makes them great value for money.

jamiemol
23rd October 2010, 13:03
im considering a048's or those dunlops for next year

imo andy id save a bit longer rather than buying cheaper tyres and not being happy with them i know its alot of money per tyre...even try to find a set of part worns as long as they havent go graining you will be okay with them

AndySAXO
23rd October 2010, 13:04
yer i what to find a plan to find a price on the dunlops, the federal fz201 are getting good reveiw and used alot abroad, and the 595 are meant to be close to the 888 one's hmmm well i trying to keep the cost down as i moved out, i want some good tryes sort my brake system out, to get a better balance, sort the chassis out and dampers and diff then that it, no improvement on the engine, just want it sort now for track session!!

AndySAXO
23rd October 2010, 13:05
i got money to get the 888's or fz201 about 390-400 quid, the ao48'swill work out 415 quid so could afford them.

AndySAXO
23rd October 2010, 13:11

how about aome toyo R1R's? im collecting a new set in two weeks. will be using them for trackdays. trying them against 888's.

ive been using the 888's for 4+ years now. used nothing else so i cant comment on whats good and whats not.

i did look into the yokie ad08 but the R1R came at a good price for a set at the right time.

AndySAXO
23rd October 2010, 13:47
unsure on the tread pattern, but intrested in the review, when will you be trying them?

dannygti
23rd October 2010, 13:52
ive tried R1R and r888 one after the other on the same spec cars... on the road you wouldnt notice any difference but on track you would have a bit more grip and less movement from the R888

AndySAXO
23rd October 2010, 13:59
yer, guess that because they are more of a in between fast road and semi slick sort off.

sexy_gt
23rd October 2010, 15:20
will be using the R1R in december. colecting them 5th nov.

they will be used as road tyres and double up as track for my other saxo (vtr runnabout) when the misses tracks with me.

jamiemol
23rd October 2010, 21:31
wouldnt bother with r1r's on track was talking to someone in a williams clio on bodies coilovers etc...he was saying he could feel a massive difference between 888's and the r1r's

danny how did you find a048's over 888's how they warm up wear how much abuse before they give etc...compared to 888's as i think im going to go for those next year

That price is probably competitor price.. They always get them dirt cheap like in any form of motorsport. It usually works out at no VAT and 15-20% off rrp price!

Steve
26th October 2010, 15:42

i was planning on getting federal fz-201, but now it seem they have jacked the price up from 83 quid to 97 quid!!!!

I have just got an e-mail off James at serviceandsport.com saying they are doing them for £80 each plus VAT untill the end of october if thats any good to you.

yer he say to look at the review on them against the other and out of all of them including 888 and ad48 these came out as the best overall tyre.

so i might go for them, they really only a tenner in all the tryes really.

going to think about it tonight then make a few phone calls.

Who told you that? the guy where you got them from? if so thats a good selling technique ;)

AndySAXO

no everyone i rang, over the past few weeks, and there all been an increase on many semi slicks in the last few weeks,

the federal have gone from 83 quid to 97 quid, ad48 are very very expensive at the moment.

i got the tyres i got for 80 quid per tyre on special offer till the end of the week, normal around the 100 110 mark.

also the tax is changing again in jan so will increase prices again, so that makes a difference again.

the silverstone type RR's where tested against the 888 and ad48's and the guy one of the guys test them was a toyo driver, and he even put the type RR's ahead of the ad48 and 888's,

so cant be that bad, and for 80 quid an tyre instead of 116ish for ad48 and about 100 quid for the 888.

dannygti

AndySAXO

Though I give them a good the reveiw looked good so for the price they offered me after about an hour talking to them I couldn't say no lol.

But every conpany I spoke to said prices are one the increase could be bull**** but they did do a good offer 80 quid a tyre for semi slicks at the moment can't go wrong at that
