I've been caught doing 41 in a 30 zone :( got my NIP this morning :(
just wondering what my likely punishments are going to be. will I be offered a drivers awareness course?, or just 3 points and a fine?
I'm not looking for people to have a go. I know I shouldn't speed.
the camera is unmarked, grey and at the bottom of a hill :( so not fair.

Say, how many times have you been speeding in fair conditions then ?

to get the course you have to be within reason, they normally say 10% (for the clocks innacuracey) plus 4mph (can change depending on where you live) 30mph @ 10% =3 mph which we know, plus 4 is 37mph so they say its fair to assume if the clocks were 10% they give you a 4 mph window for saying look im sorry 4mph isnt much?
you pay fine and sit through an hours shit video

at 41mph you have no excuse, because even if your clocks were 10% out (which they know there wont be but need to generalise for old cars) youve then done an extra 8mph

fucked* and belive me they can charge you alot more

@Manu; i dont reqularly speed, it was at 1ish in the morning after finishing work, i was dropping somebody off, did not know of the camera, i hit the hill at 30ish, it was a steep hill, taking my speed up; which is why i said its unfair.

can these speed camera tell who was driving? it was a gatso, as for as i'm aware. my nans offered too take my points as she is loosing her licence due to medical reasons at the end of this year.. would i get away with it?

Realise that is illegal and your on a public forum right?

There are some taboo subjects on here that should just be kept in reality.

Everyone here is legal 100% of the time anyway;)

got my first one speeding on a cbt before i passed, was loving having 10 month left on my 4 years of high insurnace, daft enough to get caught on my way home, coming back from shields on the motorway, summer nights in june, 10:30ish at night still sunny as fuck, no one else but me on the motorway was doing 130, not gonna lie, slowed down for the bridge where the police usually sit an couldnt see any, so carried on at half pace, got caugth up 3 mile later on the slip road by an orrificer that said 96mph is a little more then 70 my friend, your unlucky you werent going a little faster as i took a chanc on the slip road as i couldnt catch you lol, cant complain he was the best "policeman" ive ever spoke to, told it how it was and said look mate youve been caught, your lucky at 96 not 100. i agreed and an paid my fine

speeding is a cunt even when you play by the rules

Manu

You sound a bit inexperienced, but I have to admit somehow fair points. I have never been fined etc, so I am inexperienced in dodging fines and their consequences. What you are asking is illegal, and could end up with worse consequences. Somehow, i cannot agree with people getting caught speeding and getting away with it: It is 30 for a reason, and a 1.1 is nippy enough to do 30 while uphill.

and i know its a 30 for a reason, but it was 1am, everybody knows that the roads have more leniency at night... the camera just seem not too.

more pissed up fools walking around at night mate!! if you hit someone well its more than just points and fine.......:wall: had mate who thinks like you,hes now banged up for killing two girls walking home from night club near mine, for speeding at 2 oclock in the morning......

Manu

you never know what could happen, even at night. 1am is fox/rabbit/drunktard time. Being safe at all times is worth an extra 4 minutes of your journey time. saves you petrol too.

more pissed up fools walking around at night mate!!

+1

I did drive a 1.1 for years, never had a problem climbing hills ;D

speeding in built up areas is daft tbh, ive done it and not proud, ive seen many a crash and ppl being hit by speeders, theres no safe place to speed around built up areas, thats why theres a low speed limit, to the op, your fucked mate, im sorry but your gonna have to deal with it

valid points, guess I'm just gonna have to grit my teeth and go through with it. I payed my insurance in a lump sum.. am I right in thinking these points will only affect my renewal now?
and I do love my 1.1, but there's times when I with it just had that extra humph...
and just too clear up and misunderstandings, I don't believe in speeding, in fact I'd say its one of the few times I have actually sped other than on the motorway..
now for the drive to Alton towers on Thursday on A roads littered with the money grabbers, how fun.

you dont hae to justify anything on here mate, you sped, everyone has, you got caught, alot of us have, some get caught easy, (you imo) some learn the really hard way and hurt/kill someone, your insurance now is fine, your renewal will rape you, imo id get a new aygo or similar on finance, you can hand them back after a couple year, best option tbh, cheap fuel tax and ins

Got my speed awareness course on the 3rd Nov, I was caught doing 39 in a 30 overtaking one of those stupid lawnmowers! Just hope you get the course mate, if not, unlucky, I feel for you, I was bricking it in case I didn't get offered the course. I got the letter offering me it on Friday 13th, all was good.

JoshB

I got done once doing 38mph (so it said on the letter) in a 30 zone. It was a van that did me and the van was actually parked in a 40 zone. I can remember it to this day where it was, I went back and took photographs of where said van was (after my fine had come through).
I took it to court as A) the van was actually in a 40 zone and B) I got caught doing 38 about 5 yards from a 40 zone.
When I displayed my "evidence", that I was merely accelerating into the 40 zone, the judge person (not a real judge, too small a 'case') asked the police to provide records of where the van was parked on the day, which they weren't prepared for. So theres me feeling all smug as their records showed it was actually parked in a 40 zone.
Then they came up with some bullshit about how the camera vans are accurate up to a kilometer (there were lights less than a kilometer away so I was doing 0mph at that point) and the judge person said "at the end of the day you still doing more than 30 in a 30mph zone, you should accelerate after the sign, not before it"

I got 3 points, £60 fine and £240 court costs.
Moral of the story.... just bend over and take it.

(although an 'undercover burglary unit' once let me off when he was driving like a nob so I smoked him and had 9 points on my license at the time)

You won't get a speed awareness course for doing 41 in a 30, thats a bit too fast. & what the hell do you drive for £3k insurance at 17? I had a vtr when I was 17 and it was £1400

dad got caught speeding twice the other week, once on the scooter (38 in a 30) and 4 days later in his car (37 in a 30) he got offered the speed awareness course for the bike, but not for the car because i think you're only allowed one course every 3 years?
so he's got 3 points and £60 fine for one, and £90? and the course for the other.
i just lol'd at him, till i realised my insurance is gonna go up lol, i'll make him pay it seeing as i'm only a named driver lol

i've been caught twice, been pulled twice too.

first time i was apparantly doing 37 in a 30, think the buggers caught me just as the bend finishes. it was rush hour traffic too, so fuck knows how!

second time was a gatso, decided to experiment and came out worse :-/

then pulled twice, once on a stopcheck (was doing 47 in a 30 apparantly, no idea how!) and second because i was doing 60 in a 30, at 4 in the morning. both times they just told me to slow down, as the first time they attributed it to passengers distracting me, and the second time it was dead. and i mean dead!

Ryan, before you even think about paying for the fine, get them to send you proof of you speeding, becuase as said above, it could just be that its flashed with no recorded image in it.

What i mean is that it could of taken a picture but not actually got the exact speed, they could just be saying that.
The sum of what ive said - just get them to send you the proof.

you do realise that it takes two pictures, and they calculate the speed from the distance between the lines. its a failsafe incase the radar is buggered.

one picture = no way to measure speed = no ticket

and if you got flashed doing the limit, they'd check, work out the speed, then just not send the ticket out ;)

it happens mate, i got flashed Thursday night, i swear down i was doing 28! as i take that route 4 times a day, so i know the camera is there! but recently, its been flashing at everything that drives past! even on the other side of the road going towards it...

but saying that, whilst i was still on the hatch markings, like the last hand full of lines, i over took the car in front and went from 28 to 41 before i got off the last line! so it probs did get me. i dont know how it works with the lines tbh. but i know that a camera reads you like 300 times over that period.

3 points, 60 quid fine... i made 65 quid in tips on friday, so its not costing me fuck all if it comes through. just the points to worry about now, but i said soon as i got Miss R6! that she would get me in trouble!

and bloody typical, i was ding 140+ not long before haha!

I've been down the road, there's no calibration marks as far as I am aware "/, there is lines on the side of the lane jolting out, but none that are clearly visible in the middle if you get what i mean.
I'm gonna request the photo's, which im well within my rights to do?
Requesting the photos will not put my punishment up will it?
if there is no calibration marks then am i free :D?
if not is there any chance of persuading the police to give me the course?

nope, same thing

they simple measure how many you've been past and work it out from there. they're not calibration marks! you could request the pictures, go to the camera, measure the lines, write all this down, then sit down and work it out yourself and find that they're more than likely right, or just take it ;)
