Ive recently had my car resprayed and not sure whether its a good enough job. The second pic shows it - a bit 'orange peely' on the rear quarter - what do you think?

Does look like a bit of "orange peel", but to answer your question we would need to know how much you paid.

price is irrelevant tbh.

if your not happy with the finish then take it back and have words. looking at the pics it doesn't look that bad tbh.

looks good orange peel dont matter every painter gets orange peel its not something you can avoid. with a nice flat with 1500 then 2000 and if your really anal you can flat with 3000 and then machine polish up to a mirror finish but yeah looks like a good job would have thought the place you had it sprayed would have flatted and polished it before you took collection we do at work even with the old shitters.

The word 'punctuation' springs to mind.

On topic, I'd say it looks good. Unless you paid a lot of money for it, I'd be happy with that.

It didn't cost me anything. Someone knocked the back and they said they had trouble matching the colour hence doing it all. was done by bmw bodyshop under insurance.

Whats the rest of the paint like, tbh you dont want it perfect so it doesnt match the other panels next to the panel thats been done

Decent bodyshops should wetsand and polish it out to leave no orange peel, orange peel is holding the gun to close to the panel but will almost happen all the time to a bigger panel even small panels, all depends on where its painted too

Like i said a quick going over with some 2500 - 3000 and then polish sanding marks out with a rotary will work a treat

My golf even has orange peel on all panels, what do you expect from a high production car, if it was a lambo or ferrari then usually they have the paint perfect being a small production per year

Pred some Ferraris and Lambos have some shocking paintwork beleive it or not, theres been a few on DW with some very unhappy owners, now for the kind of money those cars cost you wouldn't think they would be so bad.

Very true indeed, white lambo for example, but watching megafactories on national geographic they seem to perfect the panels so much lol liars i tell you liars :p

that is the standard spray gun finish you can't avoid it unless you spray it in synthetic. a normal bodyshop will not sand it back and polish it up unless you specifi it and it will cost you extra as its a long process (or can be) and sometime dependant on the paint it has been sprayed in it requires more layers of paint as you are effectivly sanding the paint away. with new cars because its all done by robots it will look shite cause they have no eye its just one distance with one pressure with one mixture ratio
