right my brakes are really really bad iv had a few comments from a few mates saying its like there non exsistant, but basically some days my brakes feel quite good, but most days they feel really crap. iv got new discs and pads and the front ( im 3 stud ) crap i know, iv bled the whole system but still the brakes are crap is there anything else i can do to make them better? iv got two mates who have 3 stud 106s and there brakes feel amazing compared to mine, mine are that bad its impossibe to get them to even slightly lock up in the wet.

any help more than appreciated thanks

change your brake fluid as a first port of call. I doubt its the master cylinder but these can fail occasionally

If you can't lock them in the wet something is seriously up.

Check the general condition of your pads/discs. Replace them if necessary.

Check the rear wheel cylinders for leaks, that's a common problem and will lose you pedal pressure and brake effort.

If all the above look okay, top up the brake reservoir and bleed through the system, go from driver rear, pass rear, driver front, pas front keeping an eye on the fluid level.

See if that improves anything or if any air comes out and go from there.

honestly mate mine are shocking. mikol i think you may have just hit the nail on the head i totally forgot but months ago i checked over my brakes and drivers rear slave cylinder had a very small leak, i was going to do both the rears but never got round to it. iv got new well(4000 mile) pads and disc up front and iv bled the system got new brake fluid and iv made suere they are bled properly. but seriously no matter how hard i try (not that i do it delibretly) but they will never lock up only on gravel through the lanes, some days its like i have no brakes. so what do you reccomend i do?

Sort the known problem first, if you're losing fluid from the rear cylinder you can wave goodbye to any real brake pressure there.

You'll be surprised how much the rears contribute the the feel of the pedal and brake system as a whole. A long time ago my cylinders went and I had no effective rear brakes. After getting that fixed the whole thing felt much sharper.

Replace the cylinders (probably best to do as a pair) and bleed through all 4 corners, then see if there's still a problem.

oh mikol i have a quick question for you that i want to conferm, iv read through your progress thread and i like :D but anyway did i read correctly that the ax diesel is a 3 stud with bigger discs and pads? would i benifit from getting some of these on my car and if so what would i need to put them on and would my original springs fit them legs?

thanks
