MOT rear beam pg2

Right.... did a drive to stansted airport and back carrying an heavy/average load of people and luggage. ON the way up there the driverside rear wheel was rubbing like fuck and I just thought it was doing because it was low (due to the weight).

Dropped them off and it was still doing, probably worse. so when I got home took the wheel off and noticed it had been rubbing on the inner arch, QUALITY :geek:

Checked the otherside and its fine, checked for play in the arms and its slight but nothing I thought I would have to worry about.

first off, do I need a new rear axle, or rear beam.

searched and found that IM axles are pretty good at supplying, any information to share?

Yes mate replace the rear beam.

You can alternativly get the bearings for about £40-45 a side.

I would get a rear beam complete bar the brakes / rear hubs, then just swap over.

yeah they not that hard to do mate- its 4bolts to achaully remove the rear beam ,2 either end of the beam- although you gotta undo brake pipes ect.... its pretty straight forward- although id advise 2 people on doing it as beam is pretty heavy :homme:

Where are you getting one for £100?

I recently fitted a refurb one to mine by myself, wasnt too hard tbh.

First you need to disconnect the handbrake cables, do this by slackening the cable via the bolt under the exhaust heatshield, then taking them away from the rear calipers.

Undo the brake lines that go under the beam, noting how they ran.

Then you can drop the beam by undoing the 4 bolts from inside.

I doubt it will last long though. If i bought another Saxo i'd 100% be sticking an IM Axle on it. Would never trust a scrap yard job again. Saxo's are just that age now where they're all pretty knackered.

Yer but fact of the matter is... I don't wanna pay almost a third of the cars value on a rear axle. It might be worth it but at the end of the day, you said it yourself, its a saxo :hug:

alot easier to get a refurb beam fitted once than loads of second hand beams fitted every 2 weeks couse they fuk up or are already fkd.

This beam ive bought isn't bad though :y: ive got a 30 day guarantee, its not been lowered and came off a 53 plate vtr. Rather not spend £300 odd quid, Just havent got that sort of money.

i was in the same situation- last year my beam collapsed and i had no money at all manage to scrape up one from the scrappy , can say it lasted a whole month before it also f**ked up, and ended up going to IM AXLES in the end- spend alot of time sorting this out and should of gone straight to IM AXLES can recommend them 100%

2nd hand one from scrappy £120

and think it was £375 from im axle but they take 25pound off if you was to give them your knackered beam well worth it as basically its a new beam with new pins ect... but the beam you could get from a scrappy could be like 7-10 years old ect... and god knows how much abuse its had over them years... if your keeping the car then id def go im axle but if you was thinking about getting rid of the car then scrappy one should hold out for a month lol, but you never know it could be a decent one but thats a risk you`d end up taking like i did and backc fired lol :homme:

i got a good beam from the local scrappy 2 years ago, and its still going strong today, but i havent had it lowerd stupilyy low or anything like that just 25mm with apex dampers. but scrappy axels arent all good, ive heard a few storys on shit buys aswell.

yeh it all depends on the car you take it from, id say go for a fairly standard looking one cause chances are it wont be in there cause the rear beams knackered will just be an MOt fail. Rather than a modded one thats been lowered cause the beam on it might have had a bit of torture

Erm good deal? They take ur old beam pull out the pins put some new ones in paint it put new pin bearings etc on it and sell it someone else for £350 Id rather buy a hydrolic ram and do it myself :P! That said I know they do a good job but £350 is alot of money for a refurbished beam imho.

Right... as you know I bought a beam from the breakers fitted it for a cost of £150 at the garage. As I'm driving home I notice I've got the same rattliy noise as I did before I changed it, not the rear wheel rubbing against the inner arch but something touching eachother everytime I go over a slight hill, however doesnt do it on speed bumps etc,

I was thinking could this be the wheel bearing or anything else other than the rear axle?

Pretty quick and easy to check if a wheel bearing is gone anyway, sure its not another dodgy rear axle?

M.O.T tomorrow so need to know whats going on with this rear beam.

I just got my tracking done, as when I changed my beam with a scrappy one 2 months ago, it went severely out. Got it done and nothing has changed, tracking still seemed out, so I go back and they tell me that the wheels are alligned fine and its something else, I tell them about the rear beam being posibly dodgy as thats the only thing that has been changed since the tracking went out,

I have camber on the drivers rear wheels and it still hits the inner arch when i have two or more people in the car.

Shall I just get one IM axles and have done with it? its not possible it could be anything else is it?

Just letting you know, when I had my old fucked rear axel on, the steering wheel sat a long way over to the left in order to go straight and the steering was generally dodgy as fuck as if the tracking was way out. I didn't think camber on the rear would have an affect like that, but I changed the beam over for an im axles one and it's sorted everything out.

I would suggest a refurb one mate, you know it's going to be fine and you get a guarantee so worth it in the long run. And you can save yourself a bit of money by fitting it yourself, it's really not that hard.

If you have enough camber on the drivers side rear wheel for it to rub on the inner arch, then I'd say the beam is rogered.

Without fully stripping a beam down, you've got no idea what the inner stub pins are like - precisely why I'd never buy one from a scrap yard.

Gonna go to IM axles then, no other choice seeing as failed MOT today because of it, and this will stop any play in the rear wheels, unless wheel bearing is knackered aswell!

Is there any signs that tell you that just the bearing is at fault?
