Tapered or flat faced

Ok im after 2 new struts inc hubs for my furio and lots of people seem to have vtr struts for sale. So i need to know if they are the same? People have mentioned tapered and flat faced hubs.. Does anyone know what the furio ones are? I think they are flat?

Pretty sure most Saxo bolts used are tapered

flat head are for vtr rims and belive the rest are tappered but i think some steels have the flat part on them for flat head unless thats just the vtr spares

Im not talking about wheel bolts, i mean the hub face. Im pretty sure mine are flat faced hubs

Furio is most likely tapered.

Flat type were most commonly found on Mk1 models and the usual scattering of Mk2 throughout the cross over year.

Two easy ways to tell:

Shaft on the left is for flat type hubs and bearings, note in particular the smaller hub nut

Shaft on the right is for tapered type hubs and bearings, note the fatter hub nut

To compared hubs, if yours look like this and are quite slim round the edges with a slightly thicker section where the wheel nut goes through then they are FLAT type

If the hubs are approximately 10mm thickness all the way round then they are TAPERED type (havn't got a pic to hand of tapered hubs

The hub nuts are different too.

Thick hub nuts = tapered,
Thin hub nuts = flat


The tapered hubs were introduced halfway through 1999 to the mk1 models, so the furio should be tapered. As with everything there's always a bloody exception.

Yeah mine has the fat nut on the driveshaft so mine must be tapered. cheers mate :)

so what would happen if you changed the type of strut? because i have a mk2 vtr but have now put mk1 struts on with billies in, is this bad what will happen? the driveshafts seem to fit alright and i used the same hub nut and seems to fit on ok
