MK1, or MK2?

MK1 has a bulb behind the dials, MK2 are SMD Leds soldered on a circuit board.

mk 2 so how do i go about changing them

need to drop the steering wheel down

take out the whole set of clocks

take them apart

identify which SMD is the problem

unsolder it, and resolder a replacement

refit by doing the above in reverse

^ This basically.

If you've got a base model saxo, You'll struggle to get the dials out without taking the steering wheel off?

So:
Airbag out.
Casing off.
Steering wheel off.
Drop the Indicators and wipers stalk and the airbag ring.
Undo the screws for the dial surround,
Take dials out, and unplug both plugs from back.

Unclip dials from black casing.
Unclip needles from dials.
Take white backing of dials off.
Locate SMD on board, Resolder a new one.
(Might as well change the colours while you are here!)
Basically, Put this back together.

dont have to take the wheel off, if you take the casing off around the base of the steering column then undo the 3 bolts and drop the column you can just about squeeze it out, but its a real pain! but easier than taking the wheel off

Taking the wheel off is one bolt? Then you have a lot more space to work with personally - Each to their own!
