Well, I've decided to be a pussy and buy something newer, After considering buying a 106 gti project to put an engine in i've decided against it as quite honestly i cannot be bother doing a build again as i want to just jump in something new and go a drive, I'm currently considering a number of cars, the main things i need to look out for is..

INSURANCE GROUPS & Obviously the cost of the car.

Right so i want something for under 8k, planning keeping it for a good two years, must be around the 200bhp mark, I'm going to sell the 16v Rallye once this is bought, I'm currently making an ok wage to pay for the car so until my times done with the company i'll be heading offshore (hopefully)

So i'm considering -

Civic EK9 Type R
Mk4 Astra GSi Turbo
Ibiza Cupra R
Clio 182 ( Insurance is steep )
Maybe something gay like an Audi TT?

Hoping for something along those lines, preferrably group 15 insurance or lower! Must be newer than 03'.

So to put it straight - 8k & decent to insure, Cheers.

Mk4 Astra GSi's are fucking immense. Only problem is they do require intensive maintenance and can cost a bit to run, but the rewards and enjoyment are tenfold. They are awesome car's and look incredibly sexy, I would love to own one, but running costs put me off slightly!

They are slow as standard, drink fuel, turbos are a common problem, and they are boring to drive.

They can however be made to look go and go decent but they need a few quid spent on them to do that.

My wee bro is the same.At 22 his 182 sets him back just over 1k,but the Ek9 and EP3 is a tad more.

Good points, I did say running costs were high!

They aren't that boring to drive! Reason being is I actually drove a friend's one a few months back, and man it was impressive. Although you are right, it needs a few thousand spent on it to make it better.

You can pick up enthusiast owned models that are good to go though. AOC Forum usually has a few choice ones for sale.

Oh yeah for 8k you would get a fantastic one with everything that needs done to make it a very good allrounder all ready done.

But then for 8k you could pick up an Astra VXR.

Tbh, you could pick one up that has been modified properly already for around 6-7k.

Tempting though. Although for 8k I doubt you would get the same level of modification on the VXR. All depends what you are going for I suppose.

Like for like though the VXR is far far superior to the Gsi.And it has 40bhp more as standard.
I personally would rather have a standard VXR over a modded Gsi.

I just hate the MK5 interior and feel..it feels fucking awful. It's a deal breaker for me..I just couldn't live with such a drab interior.

The GSi for me all the time lol.

I like custard.

The old focus rs is pretty sick, I drive my mates on a regular basis and there very impressive...might strugle with that budget though! Chances are any under 10k have been a cat c or d! :s
On the flip side, thought about finance?! Renault are giving there cars away at the moment, £370 a month for 3 years or something stupid for a new Clio sport with all the trimming! A guy on the 106 Rallye register has just done it, bloody stunning car, he has caged it, it's his new track toy...for that kind of money, you silly not to! :)

Ford Racing Puma.

Astra GSI for me, must be black or red though.

Or you can pick up the coupe shape for 2/3k less and has same engine, not sure if suspension is same as GSI but you'll be changing that anyway so not a big issue.

i think it would have to be the ibiza they look sweet with the intercooler peeping through the front bumper
so i would have to say ibiza or the civic not a fan of the gsi or the clio

Nice replies curious on others thoughts though! Still planning a gsi ( maybe ) As they're dirt cheap!

Btw you can get a SRI turbo, same engine but doesn't have the GSI bumpers or wheels.

They are even cheaper

Krys_23

Funny you should say that, it was the last car i was looking at before i came back to this haha! But the one i seen was 5k and gsi's are about 4.5-5k lol.

id 100% get a 182 cup mate itl leave you with money to either pay insurance off or to put in the bank for anything else you want. if i had 8k i know id spend 5k on a clio 1k insurance and keep the rest for anything i want.

MiniGibbo

And *just* enough cash to change the rear disc with the bearings built in :homme:
