i normally start it up with the heaters on full blast, get a soft sweeping brush out the boot and brush all the snow off roof, windscreen, bonnet, lights ect.
and if needed spray a bit of de-icer:A:

i also keep a spade in my boot incase i get stuck:y:

how do you do it as i know some people do it very differently?

and what do you keep in the boot at winter time?

:y:

Yesterday, I had to get in my car from the boot, the doors had iced shut :( so now i keep my De-Icer in the boot and my sub... apart from that, like you I start the car, put the blowers on and rear heated window, and use my scraper on the side windows while the front and rear warm up...

De-Icer the windscreen and 2 side windows thats it. No heating untill its up to temp or it steams up.

Dont keep nothing in the boot, have no need to lol all the roads are gritted or regulary used round here so dont ice up or get snowed over

All thats in my boot is
2L of water mixed with anti-freeze, De-icer, a thick coat and my tow rope & Jump Leads.
If it gets stuck, i just move it out the way as much as i can. Lock it and leave it

May aswell use a wire brush or a brillo pad mate, does a much better job and jus as much damage. Summer time will show all your scratches up from rubbing a brush over the paint and pushing ice all over it!

Also why the roof and bonnet in particular? I also get all the ice off the nearside skirt, offside rear wing and the pillar of the door on the nearside occasionally get the ice off the wheels too :S

I get in, turn the demister option on the climate control. Turn the heated screen on and wait.

My dads got a rangerover, one press of a button on the fob inside the house defrosts the car, warms the engine (without starting it), heats the interior to a nice toasty setting and also heats the drivers seat + steering wheel. Life isnt fair

what a tosser . . . roof and bonnet in paticular as if you brake hard the snow comes off the roof and onto windscreen and if its alot of snow its too heavy for the wipers. bonnet if your starting to get a bit speed up on the motorway ect it sprays up ect.

and i use a brush because the full car is getting touched up ect for the summer. dont think a really soft brush is the same as a wire brush . . . or do you not understand what soft means?

Got to be careful with that Becca cause any chip can cause a crack in your windscreen.

No literally water out of the cold tap with a drop of hot, aslong as its room temperature its gonna melt the ice.... :y:

The only real bugger i found when i used my car before the van was framless windows as the glass would stick to the rubber seal and not go down so i could open the door :S

Because otherwise it blows off while you're driving into the person behind you.

I always cover mine in warm water, I know its dodgy but I have been doing it for years and have never cracked a windscree, touch wood.

After work I cover it in tea from the free coffee/tea machine, they stopped doing hot water so tea on the windscreen works lol

K17NEY

boil kettle, make coffee in flask, pour rest of kettle over windscreen, get in and drive.

Viper
27th November 2010, 14:25
It is only bad to put water on your windscreen when the water is really hot I think. It's the sudden massive temperature change that does it. Luke warm water won't cause the glass to expand rapidly so it should be ok.

One thing though... Make sure the mrs doesn't shut the door on your hand when you're sorting her windscreen out :S
