Have decided to save for one of the 225bhp ones, just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them? And what sorta power you can get from them?
Cheers

I've seen some tidy ones for like 4-5k with average mileage, but german cars go on forever so I'm thinking 100k miles isn't really a problem for a car of this standard

I drove a customers 225 once. Didn't give it full beans but it had plenty of poke. Sounded lovely as well. I just don't like the way they look.

I like the way they look, it's different. I know they're a bit of a hairdressers car but I like em.

Yeah fair play buddy if you like them thats all that matters. I do however like the look of the mk2's. They look like mini r8's to me without the side intakes.

Was waiting for a hairdresser comment, then it comes from the OP lol. Nice cars, I dont see many about in the modified world. Shame they have those Halfords fuel caps as standard :n:

TBH i wouldnt have a mk1, i would have a mk2 though.
Not sure sure if this is helpful but i remember clarkson on top gear saying the first TT's that came out had problems with spinning out or something, and that the later models were slightly changed. This has probably made no sense but im sure there will be something related to the slight changed made on wikipedia/ a owners club forum.

i love em. before the sax came i saw a silver one for £6500 75k on clock i wanted it so bad, and insurance was cheaper than the saxo too. and again everyone says they are hairdresser cars but i love em and they are the on;y bubble shaped cars i like. if i had the chance to get one i would without a thought.

Thats not true sorry. The engines will go on if they are well looked after but Join the TT forum and they will warn you away from high milers. They do have problems with clutches, dashboard dials, ignition coils etc. Please also bear in mind the running costs, its roughly £700 and upwards for a clutch change.

Fast as a 330ci beemer e46, handle really well, look great i mean thats what they are renoud for, and with a £500 revo map will see them upto 265 hp and bring 0-60 to around a flat 6 seconds. renoud for 1 of the greatest engines used in a car
1 thing they are is damme heavy, electrics have some bugs, coil pack as mentioned and there was a problem with the rear suspension on the early ones causing them to flip or spin out or something
next time keep your clueless opinions to yourself cause thats all it was a opinion not a single fact in your post.
The 225 isnt fast but its a very lively engine and seems to spool the turbo up no matter what gear your in so you have very little lag, myn handled great, fuel consumtion was good, looked superb great cabin to be in, birds loved it, was nimble enough around town.
i had a 225 roadster on a 03 plate and it never missed a beat absolutely amazing in the snow, i had the forge exhaust system on myn so sounded great only mod i done to it wish id of tried it with a filter and map most on tt forum claim they are as quick if not quicker than standard civic type r's after a revo map.
Standard 0-60 is 6.7 seconds for manual with a 147 top speed roadster not coupe
I mean a 330ci vert can only handle a 0-60 of 6.7 and thats the second highest in their range
So please gibbo tell where your post had any facts?
Heres a quote thats used on parkers for the tt
"Classic styling, sporty interior, excellent turbocharged engine"
its also used in most reviews
I currently have the mk 2 tt and its awesome! :y:
Hope the facts help mate

Personally thought the 225 turbo'd TT would have kept with a typeR no problem... My cupra was 220+ and that used to overtake them quite easily. I had a toy with one a week ago in the S3 (same engine as TT i think) and the same happened with that, overtook it, but not as easily as the cupra could....
Are the mk1 the BAM engine?

I smoked a 330ci E46 in my old Mini CS, theyre pretty slow cars from my experience. Never drove a 225bhp TT so couldnt comment.
I personally think the Mk1 TT is a design classic though :y:

We've had a couple in at work with ignition and ecu problems, not sure if it's common but 2 with the same fault seems suspicious!

Yeah its the bam engines in them mate, and yeah they pretty close to type r performance just didnt want the type r baboons jumping in saying nar there not my type will beat a lambo etc etc.
S3's are superb cars slightly quicker than a tt out the box though and alot lighter
Im debating getting a new s3 5.3 0-60 260bhp nice!!!!! :y:

I never said the 330 was fast its not in the slightest..
But both are around the same price bracket new, both verts and similar size although the bmw has more seats.
"I" think the 20vt is a shit boring flat engine so theres for need no facts as "IM" giving my opinion not facts.
