No i haven't but too right they should. It's an obstruction to your visibility PLUS a hazard to anyone behind you if there's snow and ice falling off your car!
The amount of people I've seen today that seemed to have just got in their cars and put there wipers on to move the snow is ridiculous!

I doubt it tbh. But i agree to an extent. Point's perhaps a bit harsh but it's not safe! If they have to brake and the snow goes over their windscreen they have no idea where they're going.
The amount of people i've seen driving with snow all over front and back lights, back windows, 12" of snow on the roof. It's stupid and a hazard.

I heard it too. But its only if you don't clear a ridiculous amount off th car. In all honesty, you should be cleaning the car anyway before you go!
Really annoys me when people go down the a12 and it all flies off into my windscreen :(((

If you leave it, it freezes, then it's a right arse to get rid of. Keep on top of it ftw.

Shove that brush up your aaa...hey Manu :D
TBH I cleared the Windscreen, but that took a good 10 minutes. Sod the rest of the van. If snow fell off my van and hit the car behind, the car behind is too fucking close! Throughout the day the snow melted and then refroze on the sides of the van. That's how cold it was. I've spent enough time outside without spending more chiseling away at my van lol
Rant over :y:

Hey Rogue :D (just taking the piss-I know it's got colder today, my car froze twice. And it's near impossible to reach the top of a van. get some salt on top)
To be honest: beyond the fine and point, it's common sense and respect for other road users. When a mixture of snow and ice comes flying from the oncoming car and crashes onto your windscreen, it's not exactly a pleasant experience

If they're half way through, fair enough. At least some of it's gone.
It's not the fact that they're being lazy as such (although it is daft), it's just that it could potentially cause an accident.

ive seen ppl get fined and points, i was warned for it last year, its not purely for snow though, it falls under an unsafe/unsecured load category, yes we know its not a load, but a 1ft chunk of ice sliding of you car when it warms up on the motorway etc, is very dangerous to the person behind, who may get a shock/swerve and crash, or brake and cause the person behind them rear end them. also as posted can give you a shock cause you to brake if it slides down your windscreen :y:

There was a police car coming out of the station yesterday with only a slit in the snow to see through :mental:. couldn't see there plates either.
Its common sense to clear all/most of the snow off your car. You get in your car heaters on full, the heat then loosens the snow on the roof + could slide onto your windscreen without breaking.

Alot of the ambulance are used 24-7. You get in early and do a vehicle check, also most of the vehicles have a run-lock to keep the engine running without keys and a good heater!

Outline
Message warns drivers in the UK that police will be stopping drivers with snow on the roof of their cars and issuing them with a fixed penalty consisting of a £60 fine and the loss of three points.
Brief Analysis
The message is a hoax. While drivers may be penalised if snow on the roof of their vehicles obscures their vision or is a potential danger to other motorists, the specific police campaign and fixed penalties suggested in the message are not about to take place and have been denied by police.
Detailed Analysis
This message, which first began circulating as a phone text message and has now migrated to email, Facebook and other online networks, warns UK based motorists that "from tomorrow", police will be pulling over drivers with snow on the roof of their vehicles and issuing immediate penalties of £60 fines and the loss of three licence points. The message asks recipients to send on the warning to others as a means of alerting people about the supposed police campaign.
However the claims in the message are untrue. The bogus warning apparently began life as mobile phone text messages, some of which purported to be from the Humberside Police in the UK. However, Humberside Police have denied sending any such text message, noting in a statement on its website:
ISSUED 1400HRS 01 DECEMBER
BOGUS TEXT MESSAGE
leeroybrown
2nd December 2010, 11:19
The Force has been made aware of bogus text messages being sent to people in the region. Roads Policing Inspector Graham Johnstone has made several radio appearances to give both driving guidance and to squash this rumour. The text messages claim to have been sent by Humberside Police and relate to the prosecution of drivers with excessive snow on their roofs. The Force has not sent this text message out and it is not the sort of text message the force would send.
Moreover, there are no credible news reports that confirm that police in the UK are about to launch such a road safety campaign. In fact, according to news reports, the Road Policing Unit in the UK advises that there is no specific legislation on driving with snow on the roof of a vehicle.
Like many such messages, the "warning" does not specify a date other than the vague reference to "tomorrow", thus ensuring that it never becomes outdated and may therefore continue to circulate for months or years to come. In such cases, "tomorrow" never comes. Thus, the message is nothing more than another foolish hoax that serves only to spread misinformation and clutter inboxes and social networks with even more pointless nonsense.
It should be noted however, that while there is no specific legislation about driving a vehicle with snow on the roof, drivers could certainly be penalized if this snow obscured their vision or was a potential danger to other motorists. The Humberside Police statement quoted above also notes:
However we urge all drivers to drive with care and ensure their vehicle is roadworthy before setting out.
leeroybrown
2nd December 2010, 11:19
If there is an excessive amount of snow on a vehicle's roof it could cause visibility problems if it shifts down over the windscreen of the vehicle or cause problems to other road users if it lands on their vehicle. Such a vehicle could be classed as being in a dangerous condition.
And a December 2010 STV news article notes:
The Road Policing Unit said that there is no specific legislation on driving with snow on the roof of a vehicle, however if it slips over the windscreen, or flies into the path of another car, it could leave the driver open to being penalised for driving without due consideration, dangerous driving, not being in proper control of the vehicle, not having a full view ahead and windows not being sufficiently clean.
Thus, while the "warning" is a hoax, it is nonetheless advisable for motorists to ensure that excessive snow is removed from the roof of vehicles before setting out. Police in the UK have regularly advised motorists to remove snow from vehicle roofs before setting out, especially in severe or challenging weather. Failure to do so could compromise road safety and drivers could indeed be penalized. However, these facts do not, in any way, legitimize the false claims in this hoax message.
