you fancy coughing up £££ for a new headgasket every month ?

exterior looks nice, interior has cheap plastics, worst mpg ever

They are prone to HG's.. Not monthly. But my sisters practically was fucked.

HG on her MGF 1.8 VVC went at 27k miles, then about a few hundred miles later. The engines are shocking. Fair enough the engines are different, but the 1.4's are even worse, just log onto the MG forums and see, K series engines, although in some cases are great, in most cases they blow.

Aslong as the engines are well maintained, head gasket shouldnt be a problem as much, or get a multi-layer good one and Headgasket problems will dis-appear. The handling leaves abit to be desired, once lowered they are ok. and MPG is fairly poor. I had one not long ago, on a trip out i covered 43 miles and used half a tank, driving normal but with a loaded car

I do think they look good, but to be honest, the interior felt flimsy with the cheap thin plastics.

My bad, I was being a bit sarcastic. Not too far away from being truthful though:y:

My mate sold his for that reason alone He was doing a mere 60 miles on £20.

I didn't mean it like that lol.. Just saying they are not as bad as people think, but in my sisters case it really was shite, 2 HG's in a few weeks iirc. It couldn't hack long journeys, she was glad when the Polish lorry driver reversed over it lol

I do have a strange attraction towards them..But I feel that the people that drive them are gheys for driving them. Trying to be cool by buying a car that they thinks fast, but in essence its just a Beefed up rover 25. ;)

Just my 2pence.

TBH at the end of the day its up to you, I was looking a them for my first car too as its more comfier/grown up. The only reason I chose a vtr at the end was because I found one which was local and nicely priced.

I had a rover 200 and te only thing that didn't go tits up was the HG, I had problems with the lambda sensor, the speedo, failed it;s MOT on god knows how much, just generally wouldn't bother tbh. And I was lucky to get 250 out of atank and that was on a 1.6.

Wouldn't bother tbh, get a civic instead or similar

everyone i have been in standard has been notabley quicker then a vtr standard.......

i still hate them though, an as said, poor mpg and interior is the worst, mate had one on an o4 for 3 years, eventually the h/g went as was drinking water when he gave it back to finance co. his handled quite well bing slammed on 17s, stuck to the road really well i thought, good tyres like

Ahh yeah, no doubt they're quite quick for what they are. Thats one of the things that draws me to having a soft spot for them Lol

I just loath the people that buy them thinking they're absolutely awesomely fast and superior.

i herad that 1.8 are stretched too much, so 1.6 or lower are okies (k series)
and also if you get the uprated landrover gasket and rail there good?
correct if wrong please :)

MiniGibbo
2nd December 2010, 20:23
Your wrong there all the same.

It was a poorly designed hg with plastic locating dowels that if the engine overheats can distort and generally fuck them selves easily.

Landrover headgasket with metal dowels fitted correctly and it'll have years of life left..

my old boss had one an 04 pre facelift model 1.4 16v 105, he bought it brand new, not had any problems with HG failure or any other problem other than polish fuckers kicking his mirrors off twice
