After admiral. Offering me a quote of 1260 and 1220 respectivly for these cars im 21 and thats fully comp. So looking for peoples opinions on these cars. Or any others. Could go to insurance group 36. Leaning more towards the FRS. But the luxury of the audi is drawing me in.

but as you said, audi / luxury! yes please.

But just not the same.

RS! Audi looks boring compared. Just the looks of the RS makes it win straight away.

Black S3 for sure. Mk1 RS' are starting to look a bit dated now.
JoshB
6th December 2010, 22:48
I'd go for a Mk1 Focus RS for the exclusivity, early S3's dont look anything special over a normal A3. And the Ford is more tunable, but the S3 is 4WD...
Jaytee
6th December 2010, 22:49
Ctr. Not interested tbh also the insurance on that is 1600. Dont really want to pay so much. And a 182 is a bit close to a saxo really. Gonna go and look at a 197 however.
Jamie
6th December 2010, 22:51
The RS...But i'm a massive Ford fan. The S3 is just an Audi A3, a boring everyday car, that said I don't know.. the S3 will be much newer and feel much better built and better equiped...

Audi s3 1.8 turbo.
0-60 - 6.4 secs
155mph
6 speed manual
30 mpg
FRS
2.0 turbo
0-60 - 6.2
144 mph
215bhp
5 speed manual
28mpg

They are soo comfy tbh, and defo not slow.... I hate jumping in my corsa, its horrible in comparison for comfort.
integra type r is possible.
Beautiful cars tbh, would still love to own one, but with the comfort and tuning potential of the Audi, I'm going to stick wih that for a while.
Around my area there are a good few FRS but only 2 other S3's and with me being only 22 and having it in yellow, mine is the rarest aswell. They are beautiful cars and can easily get them drifting, don't understand why folk slate the 4wd system tbh. The launch on the S3 is awesome aswell. That being said, the FRS is a cracking car
Jaytee

My comment was based on the current shape S3, in which case FRS all the way any day. But the S3 is still nice, all depends on if you can find a good example, the RS will always have that special feeling to it.

Mk1 frs is looking dated, but still a good looking car.
S3 depends on shape IMO. I'm sure they are all comfy but the Mk1 which I imagine you are looking at looks dated and ugly IMO.
Considered a BMW?

Considered a 330 both petrol and diesel. Woul be more tempted by the derv however. The petrol has somewhat frightening running costs.

A friend who we go out driving with has a 60' Plate Focus RS, IMO it is Win.
The power is unbelievable, the handling makes it feels like its on rails, the sporty feel to it can never get old. Recaro's finish the car off a treat. The car is really something else! Looks wise it is soo eye catching, with the Diamond Cut alloys with black insides making the car look porn! A car pushing out 300bhp with ease, without me including the mods he has done. If the MK2 RS is anything like the Mk1, then you have your answer from me :y:

you know them 0-60 times complete bollocks no way a front wheel driver car will get off the mark and to 60 quicker than a 4 wheel car,
Just after i got my tt mk2 remapped 252 hp 326nm torque i had a play with a s3 looked a little tuned tbh but i couldnt shake until i got traction in about 3rd gear and he was still a sticky customer
s3's underrated performance car and can gain massive power from remaps alone
filter, intercooler, exhaust and stage 2 map £1500 would see your s3 close to 300bhp coupled with a 4 wheel driver set up it will ber very hard to shake
owned 2 audis highly recommend them thinking of going for the new s3 myself the 260hp is very tempting

I agree with the FWD thing tbh, at Crail dragstrip in my vts, I managed to keep with an astra vxr till mid 3rd gear (well over 70) and that was near bog standard. We both launched the exact same aswell. Go on youtube and look at S3 Crail. there are lots of videos on there and the S3 outlaunchs nearly everything they race.
The newer shape S3 is awesome aswell, love the alloys on it

Focus has an LSD as standard.Audi will probably weigh more, not to mention the 4wd system is pants.Spins up the front wheels before sending power to the rears. So in this case, its not going to launch as well as proper 4wd cars.

Oh and the only downside i could think of for the Focus as standard,is the shitty location of the inter-warmer.After a few mins of boosting,it starts to feel laggy and dosnt boost as hard.Gets too warm.
FMIC is needed.

DISAGREE!!! bollocks mate, the launch on them is fucking awesome. Me and my mate had a toy with each other in his scooby and I outlaunched him by a fair bit... As long as the traction control system is off you're good to go. The FRS and S3 are roughly the same the weight. the New FRS is shocking in weight, just over 1.6 tons

New S3 is 1455kgs and that will be due to the 4wd weighing it down.

Imo on a set of dd rollers you wont which will give the best readings. Badger bill proved this more like 250 at the best. still them on other rollers an yeah will see 2870-280.

They are beautiful cars and can easily get them drifting
please tell me you are joking?
the 4wd system is the wrong way around! fwd all the time and throws a little bit of power to the back if you need it! that's a joke and it definitely 100% cannot be used for drifting. if it could, you would have imprezas going everywhere broadside! drifting is stepping the back out and holding it out with both of the rear wheels spinning at the same time (no open diff crap)
an s3 will not hold a drift. it will step out for a fraction of a second and that will be it unless you're on ice.
the r32gtr has the right idea for a 4wd system, rwd all the time and throws a bit of power to the front if you need it.
as for them being powerful? they are pretty boring, nowhere near as quick as they are made out to be and thirsty.
on the flip side, they are lovely and comortable inside and feel very well built but for a fun car, they don't really cut it.
focus rs imo, but can you really bring yourself to spend that much money on focus that in standard form isn't that quick either? would need over a grand spending on it to make it interesting enough imo. and then you have the problem of traction.
personally something rwd or something with a PROPER 4wd system.

They are built by BMW's ///M division and are expected to do exactly what it says on the tin.Which of course they do.

The split is 55 front 45 rear, I phones Audi today to settle an argument between myself and my friend. The new ones are 65 front and 35 rear. Turn the traction control off and be brave on a roundabout and it will go. I was initially meaning on snow though... and they do shift very well for a heavier car.
No brainer for me! Gotta be the RS. They hold value very well.
So does the S3 though.... 51 plate for example will still sell for 6k+ and the FRSmk1 52plate for 7k+

What is your budget? 10k would get you a B6 S4 with a 4.2 V8 in it and manual transmission. Theyre a lot of car for the cash too. Certainly rather have one of those over an old S3, FRS or an E36 M3. I dont know why I didnt buy one TBH, I regret going 2.0 turbo and not V8 now. But I'll be getting a B7 S4, new shape S3 or E46 M3 in the spring so I suppose I can redeem myself.
Either way though, if you have the money... premium brands are worth the extra. FRS are a cool car, but id buy an ESCOS or series 1 rs turbo over one of them if I was going for a fast ford to keep.

Just to say as well got a quote 1245 for a pulsar gti-r. Really wild card choice as they are a little temperamental/unreliable so i hear.
On this occasion, play the wild card.
Engines are strong so long as they are set-up properly if they are tuned.
Gearboxes are a week point.Dont launch it at 5k+rpm on a constant basis, change the fluid regularly etc and it will be fine.
Proper,simple 4wd system too.
Exhaust system, uprated fuel pump, decent air filter, cooler plugs and a boost controller(manual will be fine) set to 1.1bar and you will see a reliable 310+bhp.
With that you will destroy S3's,Focus RS's and quite alot of so called fast cars.Acceleration can only be described as insane. They hook up like nothing else.
Brakes arent the best but can be upgraded.
Had 1 running 313bhp and never once came across anything on the road that gave me any hassle.Had 4pots,suspension that was set-up for handling,4point cage etc.Only thing that gave it grief was an E46 M3 CSL around Knockhill but he still didnt have the out-right pace to pass.
With your budget you should be able to pick up a good example with most of the above up-grades.And you wont regret it.
