View Full Version : Civic EP2 or MK7 Fiesta ZS

i started a thread a few weeks ago about getting a car in the new year that is comfy, new (ish) and can cope with motorway trips without insurance being ridiculous as im only going to be 19 when buying :wall:

As title shows, ive narrowed it down to either the EP2 Civic or MK7 ZS?

What opinions do people have on these cars?
better looking/priced/drive etc..
does anybody own either of the cars and have experience of them? common faults etc :homme:

cheers
Alex

I would choose the ep2 out the 2 choices, though its always gonna be a fake typeR IMO

As much as I love Civics, out of the 2 I'd say go for the ZS.

Neither are gonna be fast, so you might as well go for the one that looks better standard - ofc the EP2 will look better if you fully Type-R kit it up, but that's more money.

Also in a young lad in an EP2, you will get a rep as being the lad who couldn't quite afford an EP3, so got the old lady's alternative.

The fiestas are really good. Handling is brilliant. Speed wise they're nothing special, marginally faster than a vtr. For the motorway it should be good if you drive it well. I normally get about 33-35mpg with the way I drive (like a knob). Driving carefully can easily get 45mpg. At speeds of 70 and over the revs sit high which is where I lose my mpg.

The 0-60 isn't anything special, partly because you get no power until around 3500rpm.

It's comfy to drive in and the ZS seats are very supportive. The main issue with mind is that Ford made it :S

EP2's aren't that slow TBH and still have a wee VTEC.

Plus they do have the Type R kit. Just says "Sport" on the side instead of Type R. Much classier than a Ford (which don't forget stands for Fix Or Repair Daily).

Nice car for a 19 year old TBH.

Better than a shitty ford. :n:

Honda is hardly a classy car lol.

I wouldnt go for either tbh, but if i had to choose it would be the civic.

EJ9's are cool, everyone has to start somewhere.

What he She said.
Handling of the ZS is awesome, it really grips onto the road. MPG can be good depending on how you decide to drive it. The engine rewards you for getting into the higher rpm whereas on the other side, I traveled to and from Cardiff on £50 getting on average 45+ mpg. (Cornwall --> Cardiff)
Plenty of gadgets on the ZS aswell but 09 plates don't have alot of things standard. 1.6 petrol, street pack and door Sills and you can go wrong IMO :y:
If ya got any question feel free to ask bud

What do newer models have that an 09 doesn't?

Dare i say it id actully have the ford

ep's are just so fugly without the full type r kit and by that i dont mean the bumpers skirts, i mean the interior..

Thankyou for all the responses!!
I agree with the whole rep of
'should have got a type R' - did cross my mind when I started looking at them :/

From what the zs owners on here have said they do drive well and have decent mpg
Whereas no one has really said how the civic drives, just that it has VTEC y0!!

Plus a zs would still have some sort of warranty I was told by ford :)
Eg if it had 6months left on warranty they'd give a year depending on mileage!
But am still willing to look at the civic and any other suggestions if told they drive better??

Again cheers for help, wasn't expecting it!

Nor do the honda's however you can get stripes on the fiesta which is what won it for me in the end ;)

Use Ford Direct (Google) its used Ford cars but you get all the advantages of a new ford car.

Viper: New 09 plates didn't get as many things as standard as 10 plates.

Bluetooth + USB + Voice , City and Street Pack with Sills are Now Standard ZS features

Seriously? :panic:

Cunts! Those are all the extras I've got :S

Are you sure that isn't just on the S1600?

Nope, My ford dealer told me about the 08/09 - 10 plate change over

Look at the Ford Website and see what is standard on a ZS now.
The 1600 get almost every extra and the "Individual" Leather interior

Right have decided on the ZS - probably - just seems like a car that is easier to use/live with.

The things you have said about added extras sounds brilliant!! Have seen from
RRs on mk7 fezzas that the 09' ones produce better power at lower revs than '10 ones due to crap regulations? Is there any truth to this?

Also has anyone with a fiesta gone to mountune performance at all? Have seen that they are the 'go to' for fords? Have seen the 140 or 155ps kit they do?

Sorry for all the questions!! Any help appreciated!

pumaspeed is rated by my mate. sells bolt ok kits, exausts to race spec engines fr most ford cars

ajdsaxo
9th December 2010, 10:16
have heard good reviews on pumaspeed aswell tbh but mountune is fitted by ford itself and doesnt void the warranty :)

due to insurance dont think tuning would be next year anyway

with admiral standard 120bhp zetec s - £1564
with the 140ps kit (only 20 more break) - £6495

takes the piss!

Complete crap. There is no variation between 2009 Fiesta ZS's and 10
Mountune upgrade is awesome ... But not worth the price tag IMO
You can also get the ZS lowered with Ford without making the warranty void :y:

I had an ej9 for a bit, it was frost White with black wheels and it had all the vti kit on it, looked nice. It was pretty slow though but amazing on fuel!
