As i said to you, i've drove the 190bhp version, and it was pretty quick, power kicks in sharply at 6k rpm, limiter is 8k though...so just basically like VTEC...so you can't go wrong :y:
The rev limiter on them sounds like a motorbike aswell, rapid
Definately need to stick an induction kit on it if you get one to hear the VVTi changeover y0

I'd say these are quite rare tbh, never see them going about

They are a less-hyped than a Type R EP3, and a tad slower. They seem rare as Drew said and also under rated...I mean, you dont expect a Corolla to be quick now do you?

14.8 is about CTR pace.No bad considering on paper the Civic has more power and is about 2secs quicker to 60.
Id have a T Sport tbh,as Drew said, its not a car you see everyday.Which is what i like.
Only other Corolla id have would be an AE86.
Had a shot of a Corolla Gti-16 and it went no bad.

14.8 is about CTR pace.No bad considering on paper the Civic has more power and is about 2secs quicker to 60.
He also says its the fastest one in the UK,so its not the norm. They do 8.4 secs 0-60,they definately arent quick,a VTS/GTI will do it a second quicker.
Also the handling is well, soft and rolly, just like any other toyota. The interior is plasticity and the styling horrible... imo of course.
I think you will regret it massively to be honest matey.
It quickly becomes apparent that the Stilo and Corolla are quite ordinary chassis-wise. The best you can say about the Toyota is that it has a good ride. It never feels poised or focused, never feels like a GTI, and that headline-grabbing engine hides all its power away at the very top of its rev range. It's often caught floundering around in the mid-range and even when you do tap into the power band, it's a struggle to keep there, even with six gears to choose from.
Along with the new front and rear lights common to all revamped Corollas, bumpers finished with a mesh grille now feature, as well as a large rear spoiler and low side skirts. Yet despite the changes, the T Sport still lacks the visual appeal of its rivals.
Inside, it's a similar story. The car is comfortable and ergonomically sound, and Toyota's attempts to liven up the cabin with carbon fibre-effect trim and white-faced dials are welcome. But the cabin still looks a bit dull.

Is Crail actually that bad? Hmmm..
Nowhere else local for 1/4 mile racing? There used to be a place up here further North but i think some guy hit a pothole on his motorbike and came off it, so they stopped it
D--R--E--W
7th December 2010, 17:58
Crail is ok for just having fun, but wouldn't take the reading to heart tbh. Stage 1 cupra's usually get around 14.6's.
Crail has a hill then tails off to a slight slope and the road aint the best
Peter_D
7th December 2010, 18:00
I think the reason the Corolla's have a bad 0-60 is because of the time it takes them to hit 6k rpm for the VVTi to kick in.. On a grippy surface it may not spin, so it drags on and on til 6k rpm...then takes off.. Watched quite a few videos of them just now and they are all similar, poor take off speeds
But once you're going, change as late as possible and it stays on 6krpm in the next gear so you're always on cam
I bet the 40-100mph speed is alot more impressive than the 0-60mph
Nik_L
7th December 2010, 18:00
Yes its that bad.
How many 1/4mile strips have you seen with potholes. Not to mention the surface has no grip.
And dont get me started on the timing gear.Id trust Bernards Watch before the timing gear.

Have driven a fair few in my time (as I work for Toyota) and everytime I come back off roadtest I want one.
Such an awesome sucking noise especially when VVTL-i (Variable Valve Timing Lift Intelligence for the nerds out there) kicks in and you do get a small kick in the stomach.
As for handling in the lanes near work, can't fault them. Always love being in 2nd and 3rd and just giving it a work over. Would recommend stiffening everything up though as, yes I said I can't fault it, every car can be improved. Would benefit from slapping some tasty 4pots on there.
As has been said, they are under hyped compared to VTEC as quite simply, VTEC is better. It takes a master gear shifter to keep these in 'boost' so to speak when changing gear. Celica T-Sports are diabolical for this as the gate on 2nd gear always sticks without fail.
So overall (this is my opinion not a Toyota bias one lols), I am currently saving to buy one to replace my 106 GTi as in my experience at Toyota, I can not remember them ever coming in with a serious fault. Keep them looked after and they will look after you

Don't see many of them about,
My mates got one though an it's pretty damn quick tbh, when it hits lift your heads throw back in your seat.
He took me for a little spin in it and it pulled strongly straight to 120 in no time.
Nice inside aswell, can't tell you much else about them I'm afraid.

My brother has one. Its a cracking car, his is the 6 gear version. Its not very nippy I suppose but does kick in at 6k. 6-8k is good fun. His has the leather interior which when going around a corner feels like im going to fall out the seat but dont think many come iwth leather. Plus im used to Clio sport and Saxo seats which you are sort of held in. We got his from auction, 1 owner full history etc etc, so obv not ragged about or boy raced up. I saw one lowered a while back though and it looked 10 times better. It feels like the handling is shite, but that me comparing it to the clio.
But would still reccomend one all day
