Anybody got any experience with a remote start system? Ive seen this one on ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190352985492

and had the following questions...

1. How far away does the fob work from?
2. Does the fob work through glass? (ie to remote start the car without leaving the office/house?)
3. How secure is the car once it has been remotely started? could someone just break the window and drive off as it is running?
4. I already have an alarm and immobiliser on my car is this item compatible without removing the existing alarm and immobiliser?

Anything else I should look out for?

Thanks :y:,

Ash.

Mine:

. How far away does the fob work from? 100 metres.
2. Does the fob work through glass? (ie to remote start the car without leaving the office/house?) Yes.
3. How secure is the car once it has been remotely started? could someone just break the window and drive off as it is running? They could, but if you have remote started it, you should be looking at your car anyway.
4. I already have an alarm and immobiliser on my car is this item compatible without removing the existing alarm and immobiliser? I think so!

Anything else I should look out for? Don't leave the car in gear / handbrake off.

If you're gonna do it, do it properly. Get yourself a quality Clifford alarm with an Intellistart module.

Well technichaly if your smart enough, your gona leave the steering lock on, unless it dosent work with remote start? that way no one could ever drive off with your car - unless you purely wanted to drive about in circles?

Yes, steering lock will also stop people stealing the car.

surely if its remote start and you take the handbrake off it should stop the car mate

It does if the keys are not in the car or in close enough distance with the car.

all these crap remote start alarms that they sell on egay are shit and would last any time at all. Most of them will let you start the car ingear that could kill someone. I did some work for a company that had an evo in the air on the ramps and the guy working on it had the keys in his pocket, some how the button got pressed on the key fob and the car was on gear, so nnext thing the car started and jumped off the ramp and was a few ft away from crushing another worker in there workshop. These alarms a priced at that price for a reason, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. E.G if you come to me i will supply and fit you a clifford cat 1 alarm with remote start for £500 fitted. ow make up your own minds!!!!.
