Lol... Well it was actually my Girlfriend lol.

Our Electric Power Shower has tripped the main trip, now I've taken the cover off and nothing it on fire like last time, but it was veerryy hot at the top... She had it on for about... 7-10mins I'm wondering do most electric showers have a thermo thing that trips when they get too hot? Like grinders etc..?

Last time this happened I put the trip back, and it was fine until it caught fire... So this time I'm being safe lol. It's a newish shower, but I can't find the book to find out...

It says on it 8500W 240V
7142W 220V

It's wired straight into the main power breaker. Big thick wire lol.

Black, Red and a bare one I assume is earth?

8500/230

Its drawing 37ish amps. Call a qualified sparks and get them to install correct breaker.

Okey... It's never tripped before lol just tonight... Do you think it might have been on too long and tripped itself because it got too hot?

Its never tripped before becase its wired into the main breaker thats rated way too high. Whoever installed it is a moron. Seriously get a sparks round, chances are there are other bodges too.

Lmao I won't, we had the same shower at my Parents and that one tripped, so I put it back because I'm stupid, carried on showering and it caught fire lol. All the wires had burnt. So I'm gona play it safe this time lol.

That could have ended badly mate, only a cowboy would install it without a breaker

Hmm my Dad said the guy who fitted them both (My Dad owns my house also) has been a sparky and registered for 30 years... Good thing only the showers have exploded lmao. :(

Wont trip if its connected into the main switch mate thats just for isolation it has no circuit protection at all, it would be relying on your service fuse for that which is usually 80 or 100A and is too big for the size of cable which will be used

Definately sounds like its been installed by a 'tard and you definately want a sparky round sharpish to get it sorted, wants a 10mm cable a 40A breaker and RCD protection to be brought upto the current regs

There is a trip with Shower on it, that had tripped. But it brought down the whole house, as well as the one marked Shower.

I'm no sparky... Obviously... But the wires from the shower go into the main board. I'd have thought it would only take the one marked Shower. But I assume it's been wired funny as you have all said, because it did the lot. :(

Definately needs sorting then bud, see dumb shit like this all the time at work, worst one was a polish sparky that had wired a shower same size as yours in tiny cable and it overloaded and blew the guts out of the fuseboard

Ahh! Lol damn...Well after last time, I could have been fried I'll leave it and call my mate tomorrow. He's qualified so he'll be able to sort it for me :)

Thanks guys :)

make sure the cable is big enough , with a shower being a water item , water could be touching the terminals . Showers shoudl be covered by a residual current device ( rcd) . if the breaker is tripping of it self i belive that is a live fault , ie pulling to much current , or the cable is to small or the breaker is to small for the job . If you have the rcd trippign 30 milli amps or more are leaking to earth so get a spark in asap

if its wired innto the mains power , it will be a 2 inch wide white isolater with a red swith with 63 80 or 100 amps written on with a tag say . mains isolation penalty for removal or sumin ,. then theres the main switch in the fuse box which wont trip of , cuz its a main switch , mate i reckon the fuse its wired in to is to small , and also the hot thing will just be the solenoid inside the shower so no need to worry why the shower is hot

Fixed it now... I'm a nob lol I was looking at the wrong wire, The one I thought was the shower because it looked the same, isn't No idea what it is. I tested it for Current and it was dead lmao. But the Shower is wired to that RCD, I tested it today, and my mate did me a favor and tested it (He's Qualified) Not sure what he actually did but he tested the shower and RCD I think... We had it on for about 15mins... Water stayed hot and it didn't trip... Strange but Fixed I think lol.
