View Full Version : Looking at a Glanza v tommorow.

I have already posted this exact thread on ToyotaGtTurbo.com but i thought i'd ask on here to try and get as much info as possible!
As the title says, im going to have a look at a totally standard Glanza v tommorow. The car has done 57,000 miles with service history, original import docs. I've forgoten what the code was when it was imported but it was 'show room condition, low miles'. First of all does £3400 sound a good deal for this sort of car? Also, what sort of things should i look for on the car to make sure its in good condition etc.
Thanks, Jamie.

Thats how much a lot of these cars go for. Usually range from about £2000+ I could get one with more miles, not so good shell but with lots of mods/ bigger turbo but i want to go about it all myself :)

sounds good to me mate if anything it sounds cheap.
check for the normal stuff like blue smoke out the exhaust on idle.
check for oil in the exhaust.
unplug the pcv valve from rocker cover whilst running to see if oil pumps out (it shouldn't unless rocker cover is under compression if it is walk away).
listen to a rattle from turbo
and check when the last service was
other than that should be fine.

Friend of a friend has just paid 5k to have one imported, R reg which is 1998 iirc, not sure on the milage though but this is absolutely mint, so yours sounds like a good buy compared to his.
They are ridiculous money though and one of the ugliest hot hatches going imo, and standard they are nothing special until you've spent some serious money on them...
End of the day though your money, sod everyone else and buy it if you like it!

The car im looking at was originally 4k but ive said ill give him £3400 if i like it so im pretty pleased about that bit. I know what you mean when you say they're nothing special standard. I've got plenty of plans for her over the next 2-3 years (if i end up with this car). Just hope i dont go and buy a dog which either the turbo or engine blows up after a couple of months! haha.

Like these but the GT Turbo is the manlier car.
As for 390 ponies hahahahaha people have spent tonnes gettin them to push 300bhp you would need some serious cash to push 400hp

Afterall its still only a 1.3 at the end of the day, and there quite slow for having a turbo on them aswell.
My cousin's looking at them, and just can justify the right to buy one atall apart from the fact you can say you have a turbo..

Genuine question, what attracts you to this car in particular? I personally wouldn't bother as:
a) costs a LOT to get them to be much quicker than they are
b) tony engine bay = engine out for timing belt, which = mega £
c) they're not exactly super rare or something a lot of people lust over
But like has already been said, if it's something you want, just go for it, just expect high maintenance costs and factor that in!

i had one a few years ago, was touching 290 bhp. it was poperly quick in a straight line, had cheap coilies on it when i first bought it and i was a properly rough ride and wasnt to hot in bends, ended up slapping on standard suspension for a couple of months while i was waiting for a set of tein coilies to be imported. an it wobbled about all over the place when and understeered more than a barge when it was runnin standards.
but the prices do seem to be up and down on them, and money has got to be spent to make them give bigger boys a run for there money.

I've heard all the radiator hoses need changing as the are destroyed by the slat on our roads, in JapLand they don't grit their roads...
Also the tax is usually twice what it should be due to being an import, so not only is it ridiculous to buy you've got some silly running costs!
For the money your spending you could easily pic up a scooby or evo of a similiar age! Now they're a properly quick cars with epic handling!

personally, i hate them. but you can get mega ponies out of them.
if you are on the forums, look out for Geo. hes from scotland and has loads of them - including the SWAT one. hes a wizard with them.
and yes you can get 300 bhp out them eassssy.
and power to weight is silly. put it this way my mans 600bhp supra was playing with a near 300bhp glanza, and it took a while for the Supra to pull away anywhere... glanza had half the power but less than half the weight ....

Told you no one likes them on here :p it's a car I've wanted for a while tbh. I've searched for info on tgtt and found that the cambelt can be done by people on there for less than £200, tax isn't mega bucks. As for modding, you do not have to spend a lot to get them running up to 190bhp with stock turbo. Also, read a thread on cliosport, a guy had one, got rid of it for a trophy. He said the trophy didn't handle that much better than the glanza.. Obviously this is after chasis mods.

A genuine 600bhp Supra should kill a 300bhp Glanza.Weight is a factor, but so is the torque which will hugely benefit the Supra.
A 600bhp Supra will do over 175mph in no time at all,a Glanza wont.

lol at everyone saying they cost loads to get power from, these cars start standard with more power than a vts and are tunable as hell, however they can look ugly and handle crap but still respectable for the power

You missed out overpriced. ;)
Think what power increase you could get for £2.5k if buying a Newer VTS for £1k rather than buying an older starlet for £3.5k.

They have a small engine and a nano size turbo...TBH I'd go for something mainstream *cough* 1.8t for good reasons.
