just bought a safty devices cage for my mini , and im in a situation where im stuck. DO i tell my insurance.
If i tell them will the premium go up
if i dont ... it will be my luck that some one nick it and then they will do an investigation and void my policy . Have you told your insurance that youve got cages?
if so what went up ... premium or excess

Phone company and tell them you are planning to fit a cage and see what the price difference will be!

Yeah call them first and find out how much it will go up by, i did this when i fitted stuff to my fiat.
If you fit that and you have a crash, you will have a hell of a time explaining why you have an undeclared roll cage in your car and you will void your insurance. Like auds said, better safe then sorry. Just call them.
Also in a white car i think red would be better.

Strange, Admiral would give me qoutes with roll cages, and loads of other parts added.
Cage would of put my policy up about £100 for the year.
If you dont declare it then you really have no insurance and are screwed in a crash.
Give them a ring, ask what the difference is and then decide if you are going to fit it or not, maybe try ringing round other companys to see what price you can get.

I declared all this on my VTS
Roll cage
Stripped out
Buckets
Harnesses
Wheels
Lowering
Strut brace
Exhaust
Basically everything apart from engine lol and it only put mine up by £50.
When its back on the road im declaring everything
Even in my 1.0 ive declared I have a sticker and an aftermarket headunit. Lol

Insurance will avoid to payout if you don't declare it & try to claim but depending on the amount it would increase the premium, you have to weigh it out as to whether you think it's worth it.
My insurance is essentially useless if I was to have a crash but I don't value my cars that much so it's fineas I would probably never claim anyway.

I've read that a few times, insurers must think if you have a cage you race about the streets.

You can't easily take it out after an accident, and its not exactly discreet, so I'd say declare it.

insurance companies seem funny with roll cages, when we put our cage in our mx5 no insurance company would insure my dad, simply because of the cage..

It either implys you drive like a cunt or you are concerned about your safety.
Mainly the cunt part though specially for younger drivers.

No, its due to the fact you shouldn't drive a car with a roll cage without a helmet on. I know that's a bit controversial but they do have a point. You can't wear a helmet on the road so if you were to roll or crash, there is quite a high chance your head is going to hit the roll bar. Your skull vs a 38/45mm metal bar - there is only one winner lol.
Then they have a higher chance of having to pay out injury claims or deaths!
When I rang bell they said it wouldn't be a problem though, just an extra £35 a year - not too bad at all!

I think its bollocks how hardly anyone will qoute you with a cage and how they can charge you more for such a good safety device....
Giving you the bollocks of "your more likly to drive recklessy".

That is a good point that you made, but I don't even think it needs to be that detailed.
How many old drivers do you see with cages that are concerned with the safety of their frail bones?
Pretty much every cage user is a fast road user or goes on track. Which imo instantly qualifies them as more of an insurance risk.
£35 a year is really good though!

It's always best to declare. I have now got a policy where I don't need to declare anything anymore. I can just keep modding no problem.

No, they were all out of crystal. I had to settle for Krug Clos du Mesnil 95.
But beggars can't be Choosers.
