Someone please please please help me.

I have a 1.1i Saxo Forte.

I was driving to town the other day (in icey conditions) when my temperature light on the dash came on. I pulled over straight away to find steam pouring out the top right of my radiator. I left it for an hour, let it cool down, turned on the ignition and straight away the engine light had appeared.

I have been searching for ages, using my haynes manual and seen several garages about this problem, but they cannot fix the fact that my temp light is on and fan comes on as soon as i start the engine.

I had my MOT and it passed and the guy said my engine is fine but he cannot work out the problem with this bloody light.

I have replaced the radiator, thermostat, temperature sensor (blue with yellow ring by thermo), drained the system, refilled and bled hundreds of times. The relay was changed at a scrappy and still no difference, pulled both the temp plugs out while ignition on and makes no difference at all.

Really dont know what else to do, i dont really want to take it into citroen as i know they will charge me tonnes.

Just to add, im not sure if this is the same problem but my heaters are being dodgey. Sometimes they come on, sometimes not. After a long run they came on today but they seem very inconsistent. The heaters do blow warm though which suggests everything in terms of the heating is fine.

Please someone help this is driving me crazy... :( :( :(

P.s am new to this forum so not sure if i have done this right.

Thanks to everyone who reads this and tries to help me. Much appreciated.

i think it could be your cat or your 02 sensors,

My engine management light came on out of the blue and i didnt feel any difference in performance or mpg or anything.

I got the code read by the AA becuase me AA covers me for codes. And it came up with the something along the lines of the catalystic converter threshold has been broken.

I.e. one of the sensors has read a incorrect reading or faulty

or

the cat has just about had it and not reducing your emissions the way it should.

But you said yours went through mot fine, mine took 4 attempts to pass emissions but mine is a vtr

I noticed today it seemed to rev itself when i was idle in traffic. The car had 300 quids worth of work done to pass the MOT ;) but it had nothing to do with this radiator problem.

So, what do you think i should try next? I know its something simple.... i just dont know what!!!! :(

Thanks very much for your quick response :)

Well, That is odd.

You say if you unplug both of the Temp sensors while it's running there is no difference?

That to me means they are faulty. When you unplug either one, one at a time. The Engine should run lumpy. If nothing happens then I'd say they're faulty mate :)

You need the fault code before you do anything else

PO117 is the fault code.

Any clues?

PO117 : Engine coolant temperature circuit low input

I got an app on my iphone which tells me what the fault codes are and above is it what it says,
so i would say the sensor/s is knakered mate

Just bought the two sensors but as i was about to fit them my neighbour says if i disconnect both sensors and the fan goes off then the sensors are faulty. If the fan stays on when they are disconnected they are working fine.

Is this true because i dont want to put these sensors in after buying new ones!!??

only way to turn the light off, is to go on a computer and turn it off...or replace the fault, but that doesnt guarentee it will turn itself of automatically!

and after skim reading, i saw you posted that you passed your mot on more than once occassion!

engine management has fuck all to do with the MOT! :wall:

something doesnt sound right here, it is the green one on the thermostat but you said it a blue one? Have you got two blue ones?. If you unplug the green one while running it does into default mode and runs ok, at least it does on mine.

But that doesnt address the overheating. If the temp sensor if its duff or the wrong one, it shouldnt cause the overheating in the first place?

Is your head gasket going? That would cause the overheating and the heater not working properly. Then you have the temp sender problem seperately.

okay i bought a green one but its the wrong one. The one i need is blue, and is on the bottom on the picture i posted earlier.

The one that was in there was dark blue with a yellow ring round it. I cant find this for a 1.1i engine? Someone hellllppp! :P

Thanks so far lads
