my mate give me an unlocked vtr ecu after giving up on his conversion idea ... so i put it up for sale and had a phone call today .. he said does it definitly work i said ill fit it to my car just to see if it is definitly unlocked ... so ive done that and went for a little drive .. let the engine warm up ... then give it a few revs and it went right up to 7200rpm instead off 6200rpm ... is this ecu remapped or has it had the rev limiter altered?

any help is appreciated.

unlocked ecu normally go for around £50 mark i think mate..
defo be lucky to see much more than that around this time of year..
and yea just sounds like rev limiter been raised, if it had been remapped, would have been mapped to mateys set up, which unless is same as yours wud make the car run not too good i beleive, as its set up to run sumfing, which isnt ther.

Its just a thought, vtr/S2 106 rallye, same engine...

So a S2 ecu running an unmodified S2 engine would plug and play on a VTR once unlocked?

And give the VTR a raised limiter?

I couldn't say for sure, but i know the S2 rev limits around 7200 ish same as the VTS/GTi.

The s2 rallye Ecu plug is completely different to the vtr one, i tried one on my cammed single plug vtr as temp option till I got a remap, as the 6200 limiter was far too low, on rollers setting the cam up it was making peak power at the limiter as that was holding the cam back a friend had the same cam and made peak power at over 7k if I remember right
But the s1 Ecu also has a 7200 limiter again this won't it

I would say this Ecu you've got has had the limiter raised.

Wish mine would rev this high the limit on a vtr is way to low

Thats because after 6250rpm there is no bhp or torque left, so what is the point?

Hmm, My VTR seems to hit the limit at 7,500ish. My 1.1 goes to almost 8,000 lol.

I always thought that was standard? Must be my 1.1 was stock when I bought that :S
