alfa reliability is attrocious

They are not so bad these days. I only know a few people with GTAs but none have had any issues so far. The likes of Toyota, Mercedes, VW, Audi and such like have all been going down hill for years now where the likes of many of the Italian and French brands are as good as anything these days. So much so other manufactures are not only making parts for other brands but even complete cars these days. Just look at the little Fiat 500s they are proving to be a relatively problem free car compared to most.

I will now shed some light over alfa, Since i work for them, i know quite abit about what goes wrong with them, The only reason they seem to be unreliable, is mostly down to their suspension, The engines in the new alfa's are very well made, the 1.9 16v JTD's and the 2.4 20v jtdm's only real problems are their EGR valves, as for the 2.2 JTS, its the same engine they use in the new Vauxhalls. There is absolutely no faulting the New 1.8 turbo, or the 3.2 v6, or the 1.4 turbo Multi air, those 3 engines are very well made. :) Personally, I'd have the Alfa Guillietta 1.8 Turbo, 235bhp, DNA, Its all good :)

it would have to be the alfa GTA for me and ONLY that model if pitting it against the type-r. however here are the reasons:

Alfa GTA:
+ beautifully styled with interior to match
+ more class
+ great tone throughout the rev band
+ very rear on the roads
- very thristy, i know someone who said the needles moves when stuck in traffic!
- constant niggling problems that WILL piss you off

type-r:
+ reliable
+ better economy when driven normally
+ better handling as apposed to the GTA
- boy racer image
- thin panels apparently that easily dent

pure drivers will opt for the GTA and i would too as its just in a different class. i have been in a type-r and the interior feels 'empty' almost as if the car is built for fast driving and not really refined or meant to be sat in for prolonged periods.

tbh modern alfas seem to be better in the engine dept, only teething problems are still evident which is more of a ballache as squeeks and rattles are just as annoying. i know of an alfa which did 218,000 miles before it gave up the ghost purely because of a rusting chassis.

Unless there is a video of both cars crossing the line,time sheets etc cant prove jack shit.As i have always said,crails timing gear is shit,and its very common for them to get the cars mixed up as to who was in what lane.

Ive seen time slips for cars racing superbikes and the bike wins but does a 16s pass yet the car loses with a 12s pass.

The video you posted,the Golf looks to be ahead by at least a car length for most of the run,i would be surprised if you pulled that back and won tbh.

hondas are good , relatively nippy and pretty cheap to fix thats why i love them , alfa , its a nice shape , not digging the sound of the engine , just not my cuppa tea secondvid sounds like a bit of a lawnmower although i think id rather reserve that opinion until i hear one in real life , but i can imagine they really arnt cheap to fix as my cousin had an alfa a few years back and it was always back in the dealership in the end she sold it . to be honest just get the one you prefer we are all different
