Just an idea, a loose heat sheild, or worn exhaust mounting resulting in exhaust nocking on something.
Wheres the knock coming from?

my 1.1 used to knock when i braked. never got flagged up on anything so ignored it. thought it might have been bushes but they got replaced and it was still there. best i can fathom was a dodgy brake pad knocking against the caliper

I get this after reversing and braking and then when braking for the first time going forward after i have reversed and braked.
On mine the mintex pads are not quite the right size for the caliper and the knock is them moving about in the caliper.
Probably not the problem you are having, but worth checking.
