View Full Version : who has stayed with a saxo...again and again?

who has only owned a saxo, or has gone back to a saxo?

i have a 1,1 and have been looking into cars such as the astra VXR for my next car, but something keeps telling me to get a nice 'S'

now, ive never had a single problem with my saxo *unless i caused it myself* its a good solid runner / sweet as a nut! but its nothing special, and yet i still want to keep the same kinda thing, with a bit more umph. even though the voice in my head says "its a saxo...is it worth it"

so how come, you guys stayed with a saxo, what made the decision for you?
and what have you owned, as ive seen numerous members go from saxo to saxo! what made you think, vts over anything else?!

a nice clean, tidy, smooth running S, would i be pleased?!
as my current saxo, suits all my needs, its big enough for me and just about the Mrs. and people in the back if i had to! got a decent sized boot, its a small car, any problems everything is easily sourced.
or a clio 17/82
(reason being, i do luff J222 vts and was soo tempted when he was thinking about selling it!)

Always had a saxo (apart from a brief break when I had an RS2000 4x4) since 1999

ive had two saxos and a 106,
and then my honda
i was more than happy to go back to a saxo after my honda, i missed them lots as it felt like trying to steer a barge round roundabouts compared to the saxo
not much appeals to me over a saxo for some reason

Mate dont get another saxo again honestly its sooo boring. I went from a 1.1 to my vts and for the first 6month, fucking loved the power now its just boring. save up get a totally different car mate. Just annoying sitting in the same cockpit. New car ftw, dont get another saxo

thats the thing, i drive different cars, day in day out, so i have loads of cars on the list of potential next car, i took a new scirocco for a spin today, and i loved it! but then i had fun driving the saxo home again.

Whenever I've bought a Saxo it was for sale as soon as I received the logbook.

If I do get another might be A 1.1 or 1.0 just for a run about

ive drove loads of other cars at work, but for a bit of fun saxo does the job, i hardly ever use my car so at the moment i just think whats the point in getting something that i will never use

plus i dont really care what others think hence why ive still got one, but il sell you mine for a nice price tonto ;)

Had 5 now, one vtr and four vts's. Certainly bought my last now even though they can cover any type of driving you're after whether its a daily drive, commuter, track or show car.

Its your money and theres certainlt safer options out there but if tis modifying you're after then you wont get many more options than for a saxo/vts

My attitude at the moment is never to buy the same model.

I want to look back over a long and varied car history - good, bad, whatever.

Life's too short to buy the same car, imo.

i dont like being in a car where you cant hear squeeks, knocks and road noise.

Saxos are nippy if you get a R/S, and have alot of potential to alter & play about with. You can have alot of fun in 1, bits are easy & cheap to come by & they arent hard to fix. Just a cheap fun run about.

Why spend £15k+ on a car? Saxo will get from a-b and probably be more fun :p

i think thats what i like most, the fact they are FUN! all the time, even if its just sitting at 70mph on the motorway, with the choones on low! its a fun car imo.

Always had a saxo.

First car was a Saxo westcoast

After that the VTR I still have

Once ive sold the 307 I think il buy a mk2 VTR as a daily drive.

Always kept with a saxo because theyre easy to work on, cheap to fix and easy to get hold of parts. If anything goes wrong theyre that simple you can diognose it at the side of the road. theyre fun to drive and imo the last of the mechanical era before the modern clumbersom cars came in and took away all the driving experience which makes the saxo so nimble and fun.

Seriously, you cant really compare a Saxo to an Astra VXR.

i can, as they both put a smile on my face, in two different ways.

the astra, has stupid torque steer, and acts like an epileptic whore having a fit if you hit boost mid corner!
the saxo... well, if it didnt put a smile on your face, you wouldnt own one :P

im not bothered about it being super fast, as most people on here know i have an R6, so i get my speed and power thrills from there, i want a Fun car, the ammount of go it is, is neither here or there tbh.

Tonto, as you just said you get your power thrill from the R6. So why spend daft money on a VXR, when you can spend 2-3k and have a bodies S, which is guaranteed to put a smile on your face EVERY time you drive it ;) and put the rest of the money to a new shape R1? :P or a house saving if you aint got 1 lol

one of these fast hatches that you can just get in and drive. doesn't require much skill and chances are they don't care about much other than its comfy and fast :homme:

i'd prefer a car i put my heart into, something to show for that suprises people (like your nova!) as opposed to something someone else can quite happily go out and buy!

1- it would have to go on bodies and atleast mild cams. i would throw money into it, but id rather have one thats been done to a high standard tbh! and then i can just sit back and enjoy!

im hopfully getting an R1, well was planned for this summer but as i want a new car now, the R1 is next summer...but the Mrs likes the idea of a savings account for a house :)

im 21 in 5 weeks.

I gathered you would be young.

TBH its probably just an age thing from my point of view.At 20 i would have loved a Saxo.At 26 and having had lots of other types of cars etc,ive grown out of the small rattly tin cans etc and prefer just driving something comfy on a day to day basis.

Dont get me wrong i still love some certain small hot hatches but i really couldnt put up with a Saxo again.

I had a Saxo 1.0 First for my first car, then went to my current VTR,

as tonto has said, i fancy a Astra VXR next, started saving a couple of months ago. My mate has one and is a very nice car!!

the R6 isnt going... ive alraedy decided i will have a garage with an R125, R6 and R1 in. and if i can find one, an R7 but they are getting harder by the day to find in good nic!

and i always get what i want :D if she dont put out, her mum does.

thats the thing, i drive, 20 different cars a day, some days it may be a focus to a galaxy, others in the past has been porsche, nissan GTR ;) lol and a db9!
ive driven most cars i could think that id want to own! and as much as a focus RS, astra VXR, golf R32 / scirocco R, 350z all appeal to me... there is a part of me that loves the saxo, and it suits all my needs.

i dont plan on having kids, as a few years ago i was told i might not be able too. so its not like im looking for something to hold a family. aslong as i can fit bags in the boot (or maybe a woofer or two ;)) im happy.

You'll probably regret it if you end up with a VTS instead of the VXR you were planning

I loved my S2 Rallye, handled awesome, looked cool as fuck and was pretty with with all the engine work

Then i got the Teg and it was in a different league, and when i took the Rallye a spin when Krys came to buy it, it felt like a piece of shit...was sitting so high, gear stick felt funny, felt slow etc

Wouldn't even consider a VTS over a VXR...they are totally different cars, and the VXR is "oooh look, a VXR!"...whereas the VTS is "oh, look.....another Saxo...actually don't even bother looking."

My saxo is my 1st car, and myself i think i would find it hard to get rid of it. its never that easy though is it lol... my other option is to get a cheap vtr! and keep that for another 2-3 years, if i was to get the vxr or S id want it for a good 5+ years!

and i could get a nice and tidy low milage R, local to me...and cam it. lol. ive done most of the work on it, servicing, shocks etc, so i know it inside and out.

Options options options :p Tbh mate, at your age I would just go for another saxo. R or S, whichever takes your fancy. Why blow fuckloads on a vxr when you dont yet own a house?
Imo I would rather start looking towards my own place and drive a saxo, than splash loads out on a flashy motor but be skint.
Sure a flashy car is good now, but in a few years its an old vxr and there will be alot better out there again.
Atleast with your own place its somewhere for you and the mrs to settle down, its yours and its always there. :y:

Thats just my opinions though obv, im only 20 and im saving already, hence having a saxo, and an R at that.

If you do settle for just a small hatchback why don't you get an S2 106 Rallye?

They are so much rarer than Saxo's, and IMO look way cooler

Plenty 16v conversions going about so will be faster than a VTS as they are lighter

Will also hold their value alot better, and if you keep it for a few years and keep it mint, the value will still be high as they are alot more desireable than a Saxo

from all the sites, reviews, and magazines, and fastbike and MCN! one in Cornwall was voted in the top 5!

Ive looked into them, only thing was at the time I was only toying about on the RS so didnt really want to be wandering down south etc, although it did go Lincoln a few times. The S1 is a 1.3 8v and the S2 is a 1.6 8v.

Ive looked into them, only thing was at the time I was only toying about on the RS so didnt really want to be wandering down south etc, although it did go Lincoln a few times. Once new bikes in though I will wander down and look at the 1 in cornwall. Get Phil (Juggyluggs) to come down and you can show us around. :y:

Tontsy

Ye mate.

The S1 is a 1.3 8v and the S2 is a 1.6 8v.

The S2 rallye is basically pugs version of the VTR, its just a hell of alot rarer :y:

interesting!
they do look pretty epic tbh!

Sounds good mate. Ill keep that in mind, defo sort something :y:

Bit more speccy for you too

The S1 rallye uses a TU2J2 engine and is 100bhp and the S2 used a TU5J2 and is 103bhp.
The S1 is quite abit lighter and has more power to weight, but the S2 is quicker up to 60, and the S2 has more torque.
0-60 times. S1 9.6. S2 8.5

The S1 come with red carpet & S2 with blue.

Both have 247mm vented front discs. S1 has rear drums, S2 has 247mm rears, the S2 also uses the 24mm rear arb same as the GTi.

The S1 comes in black, cherry red or bianca white. The S2 comes in bianca white or indigo blue.

There where about 1000 S1's and 500 S2's registered. So as you can imagine, rare as fuck :P

would have to go for the S2, i dont like the look of the S1!! power to weight can always be adjusted with the help of a few spanners, adding and minus a few things.

but there is also as i said, if ifs the pug version of an R, a local R to me, which is up my street.

I added a bit more spec Tonts ;)

They are like the equivalent basically, but they are alot rarer, and would stand out more than a saxo. Like you say though, saxo can be adjusted and made to be unique and stand out aswell, just like the 106.
Just thought id throw a little bit of spec your way for a gander :y:

S2 comes in black aswell but they're very rare...my mate had the only RHD black S2 in the UK at one point

Also get a yellow S2 16V but don't know if theres any in this country

S1 looks retro, but the S2 looks so much cooler and is much nicer inside aswell

S1 with 16v would be faster than an S2 16v but for all thats in it i'd rather the S2

Handling is really good you can throw them anywhere, very forgiving cars aswell in terms of handling

Bound to be some throttle bodied 16v S2's for sale, i'll go have a look on the Rallye Register

Those are the only standard colour officialy sold by Peugeot UK ;) Not to say you are lying, could well have come RHD with optional paint from factory which has been known to happen.
The yellow S2 16 ....sundance yellow GTi? :zainy: lol. Agree with you though Peter, very very good handling on them, and the S2 are nice. S1 is cool, but wouldnt own 1.

I've only ever owned saxos. A VTR was all I was interested in after my 1.1. Was considering a quicksilver though if I wasn't able to get a VTR. Always wanted a black VTR and there wern't any decent alternatives for a grand.
