no pressure at all mate the weight of the polisher is more than enough. If you press on you will burn the paint and ruin your pads.

depends what polish you are using, as some require more heat to breakdown than others.

if you do need to use any pressure, it really isnt much at all, i usually just press gently, like 10lbsish of pressure

You should apply slight pressure, or to put it another way more controlled action, as for example you apply no pressure to the polisher against the surface and it starts to skip across the paintwork causing damage!!

My advice is simple pratice on a few scrap or spare panels to perfect your technique, i've seen too many people just take a polisher to a car and it always ends on disaster!!

Different polishes require different speeds and different pads, its not as easy as it looks.

Ive seen people take what they refer to as a "Mop" to a cars paint and just left it covered in holograms and marring everywhere with crap polishes and pads.

Practice make perfect in this case!

from what iv read rotary needs no pressure and da needs slight pressure.
i personally didnt like putting much pressure on a d.a so let the weight of the machine and maybe a tiny bit to to keep it firmly on the paint
