View Full Version : Why can't I find a car I want to keep?

This isn't really a whatcar thread, more of a "Is this behaviour normal?" thread.

Last year I went through 5 cars, simply because I got bored. They weren't the best cars in the world I admit, but they were good cars.

Now I've had my VTS 3 months or so I'm considering getting something else.

Does everyone get like this?

:wall:

I've had a Mini, a 106, a Rover 25, a ZR 105, a ZR 120, an MG F, another 106 and soon a VTR

I'm not even 20 years old yet
So I'd say, it's fairly normal lol

How do you work that one out?

Try and stick with the VTS. Otherwise, if you keep chopping and changing your only gonna be moving sideways to cars of a similar style / caliber. Keep it, spend some money on it to keep you interested, and save save save for something more expensive that you either love or will keep your interest for longer, that's my plan anyway.

Exactly what I mean by constantly moving sideways. No real progression imo.

You just get bored with the driving characteristics

I don't think there is one person on this forum who wouldn't fancy trying out a new car.
Not because they hate their current car, but its nice to try something new an unfamiliar :y:

Cheers Dan you're making sense there pal.

Yeah, I have this discussion with many people lol. Just got to try and keep focus :y:
I'm also looking into the possibility of getting a new car, as granted the initial outlay is more than a used car, but you save money on parts, assuming you won't need them as much and are covered under guarantee. Insurance is cheaper generally, not as much tax, and i will be going down in CC so better fuel economy too.

Explore all available avenues :)

well i do........

I went from a 1.0 to a 1.6, had the problems of having to break a car too. I have done all of this whilst working part time (boarder line full time) and being at college too. My car stuff has taken a back seat atm, as I want to do things such as go to Isle of Wight Festival and go on my first lads holiday.

Maybe get a stable job, and try and stop getting things above your what you can realistically afford?

Agreed 100% But its getting that balance between what your happy with and can afford.

Play Nice or you can go to your rooms :fcuk:

Agreed 100% But its getting that balance between what your happy with and can afford.

Personally I'd rather save up and get something a tier above what I currently own.
So glad I didn't buy a VTR /S, I think I would be regretting it right now. Although on the other hand, if id have something to keep me buys lol.
It varies between person and its getting the balance right.
:y: Couldn't of worded it better myself

Im the same.Always find myself looking at cars for sale.Been doing it recently and ive only had the Puma about a month.Really should just keep it as it ticks all the boxes of what i want/need from a car.
Just looking for some wheels for it now.

Totally agree with the moving sideways thing, hence planning to stick with the vtr until i can get something with some real power

I remeber trying my friends Ford KA at 6th form, was awful. I was getting a bit bored of my old 1.1 due to it's poverty spec and poor acceloration, but can't see myself getting bored of my VTR anytime soon.

Would love to go round a load of showrooms and test drive a load of cars though :P

As for the moving sideways it depends really, my VTR is a lot better than my eastcoast. It's the same car but I've now got power, comfy seats, power steering, E/W, brakes etc. Whereas moving from an eastcoast to an 106 independence in rather sideways.

Bringing it up in every thread however would indicate that i like it surely as i dont say a bad word about it.:y:

Maybe its the Racing Puma i bring up in every "what car" thread you have seen.

I'm not bored of my cooper s at all, it's 05 plate but I don't think 'it's getting on a bit' or needs changing. I love driving it, every time I use it. You need a car that does the same for you.

Its not the cars I get bored of, its the roads.

Discover a new road and you'll find a whole new love for your car.

(Although I never got bored of my old Mini Cooper S :()

im on my 10th car (been driving 3 years) which i've had for about 2/3 months and for once i'm happy(i know its not long but i usually want a new one by now). I think you get bored of cars because you haven't found the one you want yet. I agree with above though, keep saving and buy the car thats a big upgrade, you'll defo keep it longer then :y:

Had a citroen ax 1.5. Sold it after 2 weeks as I COULDN'T AFFORD TO INSURE IT! (£3000 I know, what a joke) I would have got bored of not going over 50 anyway and sold it on. Had a Ka for 3 months, got bored of that and sold on. Now I'm looking for a furio. Knowing me I'll get bored of it and sell it in a few months time though.

Human nature, always wanting one better. I thought I'd want to keep the audi, but now I've had it for a few months I want to change it to something faster. S4 or M3... Maybe even an RS4? :(

ive had a few cars have regretted getting rid of a few of them the list goes somthing like
rover214si. 306dturb.x4 .309gti transit. subaru justy. mg meastro turbo. skoda favrit. maritous blue vtr. rover 420td now got a possiblue vtr an going to look at a audi80 2.3 later so the list might grow.

A lot of people say they have had loads of cars but most of the time (not always) they are all shit. Moving from one shit car to another it's not suprising they don't keep them long. Save up for an obvious upgrade.
