Found someone on gumtree/ebay (one or the other I've forgotten) who's selling front and rear brembo discs for £36 a set (£72 all round). Sound good or like a bit of a con?

at the end of the day they're only discs probably make naff all difference unless your planning on fitting better pads (mintex m1144) and then maybe some braided hoses and decent fluid
but if you want better brakes id forget all that and just fit a set of 266mm brakes off a 206 gti with oem discs and pads probably be cheaper and be more effective

Defo with Mr Jeff here. Updated OEM is the way forward. I got 306 GTi6 brakes with OEM pads and discs. They work a treat. Next plan is braided lines :y:

Ok, cheer Jeff....obviously never ventured into this stuff before so it's good to know. Is it someone on here selling that gear?

Dont know who is selling them, but i did what Jeff said, except i went with 306gti6 calipers. Currently running 283 mm calipers, Brembo Discs and Pads and Goodridge Braided Hoses, made a HUGE difference! You would need to Change everything to notice a difference!

this could be a good buy, not usually a fan on ebc stuff though

Not gonna do any performance mods to my car so is it really worth all this? Keeping the engine standard, IF I do anything it'd simply be an exhaust.

Sorry was typing as you posted that. 206 gears collection only, too far for me...but I know what to look for now. Just wondering if it's worth it for a generic 90bhp Saxo VTR? Not planning on going turbo or anything mental haha.

brake uprades are always a worthwhile mod even on a standard vtr, especially as i have no faith in standard vtr/s brakes lol especially if you can get everything for around £50 would make you feel some much more confident in your driving
you can fit a vairety of pug/cit brakes on to your saxo 266mm is probs the most popular upgrade from a berlingo/206 and others and then you can have 306 gti6 283 brakes which is what fluch has, and then the 'daddy' of oem brakes are the brembo 4 pot brakes that the 406 3.0 v6 had as standard but you did the xantia v6 discs to fit these to a saxo
read the stickies for good info

Yeah was reading about brembo's and shit, seems good...actually bid on a set on ebay but lost the auction. They went for £232 in the end which seemed a bit pricey. Will probably go for the 266mm option then, take it it's a straight swap over isn't it.

yea straight swap mate unbolt the old caliper/discs and bolt the new ones on, connect the brake hose and bleed :y: anything bigger than 266mm brakes then you would need longer hoses iirc
and £232 is about right for brembos my mate was selling his for £250-300 but he had a full set of braided hoses and brand new discs/pads, you gotta remember the discs are about £150 alone for the brembo set up, does start to get pricey, my mate still has his sat in a box in our house not sure what hes doing with them lol i want them :D
db_sax has a couple calipers lying around, but doesnt have discs or pads iirc

most "brembo" disks on ebay that i have put on for customers at work have been fake or have had the brembo ground out of the edge of the disk. if you want brembo's make sure they have the width stamped in the edge in mm and also the brembo logo. not worth putting dodgey disks on as they may be saving your life one day.

Fair point Bedford. Cheers again Jeff, will probably go for the bigger disc set up then. I had green stuff pads on my vts many years ago, they still any good or are there better for the same cost?

most people on here dont rate ebc products highly like i said if your getting bigger discs/calipers then more expensive aftermarket discs/pads would jsut be an over kill/waste of money on the standard saxo, id rather spend the extra money you save on buying oem parts on some braided hoses and decent fluid give the pedal a really nice bite

ebc disks are the bollox. i have them on mine and have never warped or had brake fade with them. but there are way better pads than green stuff i think the oe spec mintex ones are better than green stuff but as said its personal choice and you never know until you try them.

fair enough mate :y:
i have oe spec mintex pads with my group n maxtorq discs i felt a better bite straight away, this might sound contradictory as ive jsut sadi dont go for aftermarket products but at the time i had a set of borbet A's and wasnt sure if 266mm brakes would fit under them, now i have vts wheels im tempted to get a 266mm upgrade

Never been to a meet before, never been something I'd be into...but got loads of questions about doing bits and bobs and it's good knowing a few people who're clued up innit. Never heard of Ace Cafe, I'm very new to London and I'm quite happy in the quiet bubble that is Ealing haha! Will venture over some time though one weekend for a mooch about, let us know when you're out and about.
