Morning all
Time for another one of "those" threads
I usually use Shell Vpower the wallet raping fuel in the passat, but the other day i thought i'd give Tesco's 99 RON Momentum a shot

Im actually shocked, the car "seems" to pull better when the turbo spools up and feels much smoother.

MPG Wise im getting a noticeable amount more than VPOWER ever gave me

it may be the placebo effect but to me it feels smoother stronger and more efficient

I didn't find Monentum all that really except the price. Tried BP Ultimate yesterday and it was like rocket fuel! Give that a go if you've got a BP garage local.

Normal petrol is dear enough, how much is that setting you back?

i only ever put Shell v power in, always have always will. The price is really not that much more when you look how much to fill up a tank is anway only going to cost a extra £5 or something, nothing that will break the bank

tesco 99 is the best quality fuel on the market. When I worked for a race team we got lab tests of all 4 of the high ron super fuels on sale and tesco 99 was the purest, most consistent and best quality fuel n sale all round the country.

Makes no difference on road car engines though, I dont notice the difference in my turbo A4, let alone in a saxo!

well thats what i did, had a @i wonder..." moment and thought i'd give Momentum a shot. as i said it feels different from VPOWER as i didnt really notice a change from 95 ron to Vpower in the passat.

MPG wise i'd struggle to get over 100 miles from 25 quid,25 quid of Momentum is gonna get me around 140 miles...strange

I used to run my VTS on this stuff, I've never noticed any differences over VPower.

Surely your car has to be mapped for higher octane fuel to see any power gains that are noticable?

waste of money imo.

Not quite. Most cars have a knock sensor that senses when detonation will occur and advances/retards timing accordingly. (fitted because fuel in poorer countrys can be as low as 89 RON) Basically the higher octane the fuel, the more the ECU will advance timing - creating more power. In some of the 300+bhp turbo cars, it can be a difference of upto 30bhp.

I tell the difference when I run the vRS on Tesco 99ron compared to 95ron, but can't afford to run it on 99 at the mo. I'm getting 35 miles out of a tenner with the daily commute

you will notice marginal benefits on a normally aspirated engine. I cannot tell the difference on the 172 except its smoother low down in the rev range. Not worth the price difference so I fill up with V-power every couple of tanks for the cleaning chemical benefits.

Most likely all in my head, but my ZS seems to run smoother on V Power.
Definatetly get greater MPG using V Power :y:
Trip computer reads a range of approx 305 miles on standard.
Tank near empty and filled with V Power gets me 345 miles
I V Power whenever I can :y:

not sure i buy into the whole super unleaded malarky, im sure it works on high performance cars. But when i tried it in my rs125 didnt feel a difference at all. Never filled the car up with it so couldnt be sure.

In terms of different fuel stations being better quality than the others, does all fuels have to go through testing to make sure its Good enough quality?

I always use the 99ron option, and generally tesco as its the closest to me. Now on a recent motorway blast, i filled up and got 130miles before the light come on.

On the return trip, same route, i used vpower, i could feel and hear a difference but clocked to just over 100 miles before the light.

Both ways, i sat at the saame kind of speeds, with the occasional blip on parts of the roads i knew was ok enough to do so, so it snt like i was going faster in different places, or traffic made a difference as i tend to keep to the same speed on roads i dont tend to use often.

Just run ur car on AvGass lol, same price as petrol, plus higher octane level, and also it burns colder than petrol meaning you can skim the head a hell of a lot more than you would get away with on a petrol skimmed head, therefore making more power, but if u ran an avgass head on petrol it would just nip up........

plus the best part of AvGass.............. the amazing sugary smell lol

Or have a jap import that spit's it's dummy out when you run on less than less than 97ron :(

I had my VTS rolling roaded twice first time to on vpower and 2nd time on morrison's every day value and the atmospheric condition's made more difference to the result's than the fuel did.

How ever on the MR2 I can't run any less than 97 as that's what it's mapped for from Japan and well it getting to much knock and screw's the knock sensor (which I've replaced twice now as I couldn't believe that dropping from 97 to 95 would make jack all difference, I was wrong and it cost me as Toyota MR2 knock sensor's arnt cheap :(

I will only use Shell if I can help it. It is a brand loyalty i cannot explain.

I occasionally use Vpower in OMG but i don't get enough of a benefit to warrant the extra cost. As rogue said, there is an MPG difference with it on the fiesta, but i haven't noticed the car running any differently.

using momentum at the mo and have been for a while. runs just aswel as v-power and lasts longer. v-power burns far too quickly imo :)

what team / championship did u do?

Worked alongside alice racing in the british S1 supermoto championships for a year in 07, then in spain on the KTM team in the spanish supermoto rounds in 09.

So aprilia twins and KTM singles are my comfort zone when it comes to tuning, although a 4cyl shouldnt pose too much of a challenge if I wanted to play with it. I havnt touched a bike or engine for over a year now though, no money in it the way the economy is at the min.

was just about to mention, I have seen sites that done tests and Tesco99 came out on top followed by shell v-power.

I run it because the Honda is mapped for 100ron fuel in the land of the rising sun. It runs pretty much the same day to day on Tesco99 or V-power, and on track. If there is no stock I run it on Shell 95ron but if booting the car it doesn't rev as freely.

It runs like shit on BP ultimate and most other 95ron fuel especially tescos 95ron fuel.
Never noticed any difference in MPG between Tesco99 (momentum as its now known) and V-power. Price wise around mine tesco99 is a few p cheaper than v-power normally.

cars sold in the uk have to be able to run on 95. I cannot notice any really difference between the two. I get through a lot of fuel too and both fuel grades do similar fuel consumption and theres no real noticeable difference when driving either...

they can get fucked twice considering they're way more expensive than any other.

Tesco Momentum vs Shell VPOWER

Would you like a fairy dust sticker with that?
