View Full Version : Soggy feet equals a dead heater blower

I have a nice 'damp' pair of front footwells. I spent ages last summer fixing and sealing a leaky sunroof in my '98 reg Mk1 VTR and so I dismayed when I noticed how wet the footwells were last week after giving up so much time trying to make the damn thing water tight. I don't really mind about a wet floor for now.

HOWEVER, the other night I drove home for about an hour in a horrendous rain storm. This co-incided witht he wet footwells btw hence why I am not too bothered. Over the weekend I noticed the heater bowler was sounding a little bit ropey/noisier than usual and then this morning I noticed the fan has packed up completely. No sound/evidence of it blowing in any of the dial settings I, II or III. I also noticed the dial doesn't illuminate with the interior lights anymore but can't remember if it used to anyway?

I have already replaced the blower motor once as the original failed and would only work on setting III. Is it likely that water ingress via the air inlet behind the wiper motor shielding has damaged my fan and stopped it working? Or could the fix be something more simple?

The rear de-mister and fuse F2 are still working/intact so I think the problem is at the blower motor end however I really want to avoid replacing it again if I can as it was a pig of a job to get out without removing the dash.

Anyone had/heard of a similar experience? I've tried a search but most results are for failed resistors/blown fuses which I don't think is my problem.

Fuse F2 is the fuse for the heater blower motor (and rear de-mister).

Sounds like an electrical problem to me if there is nothing happening at all..

Looks like you may have to get behind the dash again mate
