Whenever i'm going round left hand corners i'm getting a knocking coming from the front suspension, under my feet. I've done the faq tip and took up the carpet, one of the bolts is tight, the other is just turning and seems to be very loose. I can't tighten or undo it... Problem is that my sax is under warranty for a year and when I took it to the garage to get it fixed the guy said he couldn't hear anything and couldn't find anything loose, and I can't really tell them i've been messing around under there because it might void my warranty! Anyone else had this bolt problem? Pete

go to the garage and take a mechanic out with you while you drive as opposed to someelses driving it... the fault may be more prevelent under your driving behaviour than the mechanics so by having you behind the wheels you can show the fault occuring - also then they cannot deny there's not a problem.

I wouldnt worry about invalidating a warranty by lifting up the carpets... there is no need to tell them. If it's under warranty demand that they fixed the problem.

It sounds like CV joints as they are the most common reason as to knocking sound.

hope this helps smileys/smiley4.gif

hi neatepeate, i'm having exactly the same problem as you are but mine is going around right-hand corners.

I've checked bushes, wishbones and even to see if its the exhausted knocking on the gearbox but can find nothing.

Been to the garage loads of time and all they've said is "until we can re-create the noise in the workshop we can't diagnose the problem". This is after god knows how many drives out where they've heard the problem. They have said that it could be one of the struts?

Think that's what i'll have to do... will mean taking a day off work, great!! Ahh well i'm loving the sax so I suppose i'll have to take the good with the bad! Thanks for the replys, will let you know what it is when they (if they) manage to fix it! Pete

I really enjoy driving the saxo, never given me any problems apart from the knocking noise and the occasional loopy-rev (jumps up and down like a mad flea).

Something which i've been told as well is the suspension relies on correct tracking and if its off sometimes the struts/shocks knock. Whether or not this is true I don't know but don't think my tracking is out anyway.

Just thought i'd give you an update on my knocking noise problem from the front. 2 months i've been going back and forth to the garage, with them saying until they can re-create the noise in the workshop they can't order parts.

Finally, as per another thread, i took 3 seperate mechanics out and they've eventually found out what it is! Its the lower ball joint/lower suspension arm. This is whats been causing all my knocking problems for god knows how long! Argh! Least its under warrenty so don't have to pay anything!

Just to let you know that after 4 months of knocking, 3 garages later my Sax is sorted! Turned out to be the balljoint and droplinks were 'worn to excess'. Will be nice to drive the car without moaning...!

Passenger side next...

Did it make the noise when you were going straigh over bumps in the road? because citroen said that my lowqer ball joint had gone but another mechanic saidf it was fine. its so frustrating.

you say the bolt you tried is turning but not tightening/loosening?
that would suggest the bolt is stripped. did you try undoing it but turned it the wrong way with too much pressure on?

another cause of this knocking could be your droplinks, these hold you ARB up.

go to teh garage and tell them there is something wrong, not the you THINK something might be wrong and tell them you WANT it fixed.

I got the mounting nut problem sorted, one of them was cross threaded so put a new one on and it tightened up ok, but the sus was still knocking... After changing the droplinks and balljoint the knocking has now gone!

Mine only did it when turning left over uneven ground. The mechanic said that the balljoint was that far gone that when they tried to move it to see if there was any play it was tight, only the weight of the car could make it bang...

hmm, mine knocks like that I think. a drive shaft like noise. maybe my ball joint needs replacing. That might solve my problem...hmmm. cheers m8

DROPLINKS, these go especially after you have lowered your car.
that is the most comoon knocking.

i correctly diagnosed both these faults correctly :D
