HEy all im new to the site so go easy on me lol...
i have recently brought a saxo 1.4 vxs, and am now having problems with the power steering, heres what happens.

when i start the car there is no power steering whatsoever, occasionly the car after a few miles will make a whining noise (sounds like horns going off) there the noise wll stop and the power steering starts working...

Anyone know what causes this? how i can fix it? and the cheapest way to do so?

Thanks,

Mark

Dno what causes it, dno how to fix it, cheapest way to fix it will be to set your car on fire, claim, buy another car, preferably one that isn't fucked and/or french

are the fans working? think its something to do with a connector in the steering columb or something like that. my first vtr used to do it sometimes, then when youd try and throw it round a bend or roundabout or whatever it used to kick back in!:wall:

I've had this problem many times with saxo, electric pumps are a really bad idea imo.

When starting the car does it not work at all? then when you drive it kicks back in again?

Im having the same problem with my vtr. Some times it works but then it can go days without working at all. My fans and rear demister are all working fine, its just the powersteering itself. I sometimes get the whining noise when i first start my car as the guy above does when it works. Is the best solution to just change the electric motor?

Also my car is due for an MOT soon, will this probelm with the power steering cause it to fail?

Whack it with a hammer a few times and it'll be fine ;)

you can try the hitting it with a hammer trick, kicks starts it again, but if you're having to this often, or just doesn't work, i would recommend either getting a 2nd hand one, or if you've got the tools, do a refurb, theres a guide on here somewhere.

also search for power steering using the search button, theres loads of threads about it, it seems to be a very common problem.

ye its the bushes in the pas pump the get stuck.
if you it it with a hammer make sure you only hit the mettal part as some people hit the plastic and crack it ( not good lol )
im asumeing you have checked the fluid level lol
the hammer trick dose work most of the time only for a little while but i did it to mine and it was a permanent fix lol
id sugest buying one brand new would be better but yu could keep an eye out on here for people selling one ( less likely to be sold a broken one on here )

also is your car lowered?

this can cause a pas pipe to rub on somthing and cause damage so check that also

P.S it will pas mot fine if pas dose not work
