Currently I work part-time and attend college and to be honest I don't like what I am doing.
I've decided I would rather work full time, but I have no clue what job I want to do
I've had full time jobs in the past but not really enjoyed what I was doing and now I'm back to square one.
Anyway the point of this thread is how did you get into your current job role? Do you enjoy it?

What are you studying at college?
Don't just throw yourself into a full time job if you have no chance of progression.
Oh and at Uni, work in a phone shop part time.

Kinda fell into my current full time job and knew people, who knew people. Work assisting and a bit of photography at a product/set photography and film studio.
I do enjoy it, hard work though, long hours for little money but its what I want to do and I prefer it so much to uni.

I fucking hate my job t.b.h. always wanted to work with my dad but never went to college as he was too easy on me so was labouring on a shit wage. then i decided. I wanted to get into cars so got a modern apprenticeship and the same place and same people every day doing the same things week in week out just pisses me off.
My advice to you mate is think of what you want to do with your life long and hard because once you got a gf a house and a family your pretty much stuck unless you have deep pockets and a lot of savings.

Im at college doing public services course.
I was looking for a part time job for about 6 months that suited me. My brother is best friends with a general manager at a new local bar/club in my town n asked him for a job. I got the job as a bar man and i fucking love it... perfect atmos :D
Joke is i must of handed out 1000 CV's n never got a job i wanted.... n then my brother finds me one out of the blue... takes the piss.
Yet again, its who you know more than what you know now a days :/

i left college worked at a garage for three months sacked that, used my savings to do a banksman course been working at harbour since then loading boats etc, love it good money and 4hour minimum call outs, so 10 mins job can sometimes mean £80 call out :) only shit thing is its quiet through winter but rest of the year its minted

i got into my trade in the raf, 10 months out of trade training, realised it was full of pricks that have blinkers on to the raf way of life, and think that a promotion to corporal made them gods gift,so applied to leave on a 6 month pvr......to be told i had to do a minumum of 3 years from trade training, so had to do another 2 years and 2 months!!!! then when i got out i did the same job as a civvy and up untill last september i was out in saudi working on the typhoon's im actually a qualified survival equipment and ejection seat engineer by trade. (parachutes, brake parachutes, survival packs, aircrew kit, breathing apparatus etc.etc.
but i hated it!!! money was awesome, was on 45k a year tax free in saudi more than double what i was on in the raf, but the job was shit, the company's that have work are not much good to work for (write you up a contract.....then expect you to break it to satisfy a customer.......no chance!!!!)
so now im retraining to be a plumber, and doing courier driving!:y:

I'm currently an Accounts Administrator and to be quite honest, I don't mind my job.
I applied for jobs through an agency, who got me the interview for an IT Helpdesk job - I got the job and then got promoted to where I am now :y:
I'd much rather be running my own business earning millions though ;)
P.S - I have never been to college. I went straight into work.

Went work with dad now again, when was about 15 till I left school , decided I liked it.. He asked me if I wanted to do it full time so did ;) only did it because I left school and wanted job quick! I like it now!. Get easy days now and again.. Just the wage is a bit poor at the moment.. But for hours I work it's great!

Web developer.
Started out as a hobby while I was at school. A mate paid me to make a website for him. Then more people started paying me even more money.
Left school with 0 qualifications - because I hated it and didn't bother going. Thought I might as well see how much I can make from web dev'.
5 years on, making a tidy income from being self-employed, having taught myself all the required practical and business skills. :y:

I was at a funeral and my multi millionaire uncle decided to ask me how uni was going. I told him i left 6 months ago so he offered me a job as a contracts engineer.
It's boring work and i spend most my day on here but it pays well and there's loads of promotions i can aim for.

We have the nuclear submarine site in our town... im serving my time as a Commissioning Engineer and enjoying it; as much as you can with a job, but it pays well and get a lot of time off ! theyre also putting me through certificates, I have done my NC and currently doing my HNC. they will pay for everything if you want to carry on pursuing into higher education.

I grew up going to work with my dad (builder) then went to college to be a mechanic for three years.. to find out at the end its shit money and less than i was on atm working part time :S
At 21 i work for my self and employ upto twenty-thirty people at any one time.
I also buy and sell scrap on the side.
EDIT: As for enjoying it i havent enjoyed work since i was about 13 its fucking shit no matter what it is, once youve done it for longer than two years it al becomes tedious..

I got told a very young age "you dont earn the money, blokes earn you the money".
And its true you can easily double your annual having a gang work for you rather than being on your own.

I did work experience at the Golf Club I am a member at and at an Architects...
Actually got offered a job for both (was only in year 10) so I had a year to think about it...
I chose architecture as it was an apprentiship and had a career path and some progression...
Been here 5 and a half years now and have just over a year left at uni (7 years in total)
But I was good at golf and let it slip, not played for around 4 years due to work but recently rejoined and got a handicap of 7...
So this summer I am going to try and get my game back and practise and see if I can get down to 2 then im going to join another golf club and then may try and become a PGA professional...
Not bothered if I don't make it so it should be easier as my life doesn't depend on it... I would just have architecture and golf as a fall back :y:

Requires more administrative work by yourself, more rules, more legislation to get bogged in, more organisation, and more importantly, more work, and bigger jobs. I'm impressed that you manage all that, no offense, but you come across like a stereotypical builder who couldn't give a fuck about all that, and a bit of a meathead haha, I love you though, really x

I got a lot of help off my Dad lol..
Makes it easier not having any on the cards lads as thats just a waste as they earn more self employed and means i have to find them work, i simply find work and ring who i need at the time which also gets around the rule that if they work for you longer than six months straight theyre "surposed" to be on the cards.
The problem i find is getting people twice your age to listen to you.

I'm a sparky, been doing it just short of three years now, with about a year left. Do anything from industrial work, massive cables and distribution boards, to house bashing. Which is essentially rewiring council houses, which is okay start at 8 and finish at 3 get paid for the full 8 hours....bit boring now though.

I'm a Business Development Consultant, I started doing Sales when I was 16 part time after school from a call centre, got pretty good at it.
Did door-to-door sales for a few months, got good at it & then ran a team at an Insurance firm.
From here I saw my current job advertised but it required a Degree, I worked for them free for a week, smashed it and they hired me.
Just proves you don't need education if you're prepared to put the effort in.

Hmm have you thought about going into maybe personal training, dietician, physiotherapy? Maybe even some kind of sports advertising management? Hopefully, like you said 2012 olympics will let you branch out.
Good luck anyway.

I left college after my AS levels, then got a job as a secretary in the NHS. Shit money and boring job mainly, then I got headhunted for a job at GSK I worked there as a clinical document specialist. I've worked in sales and recruitment since then, now I'm training to be a nurse.
Even if you find yourself in a job you don't like, there is always a way to change it. You just have to be proactive.
