Ok, well i passed my A2 Restricted license on Wednesday after 4 days of trainin :) and now i am looking to get a bike, i would like something around 70hp untrestricted but of cvourse it would have to be restricted, and as its a first big bike something thats not too heavy on the wrists as i would be doing alot of touring on it but still l want the looks and performacne
First thing that came to mind was a SV650 K3
http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/Jordysportracing/2009_08_26_bikepics-1765077-800.jpg
Any ideas on other bikes??

just a thought, when i mentioned about the R6, but the positioning is too much, fit High Rise Bars, so you can sit upride, and then still have the power behind you.
my mate had a set on his Blade when he did his back in.
170+ sitting bolt upright isnt nice though!

I was just about to say it isnt very nice sat up when the throttle is open :panic:
R6 is a good choice though, gsxr600 K5 is also a great bike :y:

hmm a zzr600? mine was great and when you get to be a more competent biker they are more than capable of throwing down and dragging some knees.
if your going to be doing some touring i'd go for a faired bike as they do make a fair difference on a journey.
im due a bike this year much to everyones dislike but i love them so much. tonts and i will show you how to spark.

Honestly, SV's are crap, ridden one and cant say there special, they depreciate quick aswell - iv also driven an 07 R6, and tbh that never impressed me either, however the apprilia mille's are a lovely bike and look the nuts too, also a fan of the Gixxers and zx6-rs or the older ZX9-R, but all time favorite bike is a Triumph daytona 675 - these can restrict by the ECU aswell, so saves allot of cash by the main dealers as they save maps.

the SV isnt made to be quick, its made to be practical!
the Mille is a completly different league of bike! its like throwing a 50cc moped against a bugatti veyron and asking them to drag!
you are impressed by the gsxr and the ZXR but not a fan of the R6 which out performs both of them
you really no nothing, right?
he has already stated he will be touring with it! so super sport wont be his main route to go down will it!

Tonto, dont loose your mouth at my opinon, i know the SV is made to be practicle and aimed at "slower, and more commuting" riders because of costs.
Either way, if he is touring with it, then why is he looking at an SV and NOT a bandit?.... think about it, sports bikes have touring bag attatchments too, i did 20k miles on a bike in one year, and i can safely say that even sport bike positioning is fine even for the long ride unless its an older person or someone who suffers from bad back or legs.

I rode a modifed rsv-r mille 5 miles and was scarred i knew if i owned i wouldnt be alive to type this. sure i could nail it in a straight line but too much for me to handle as a whole and i consider myself a good rider.
i really cant think of much else other than a zzr maybe a cbr f sport? re they called i only really concerned myslef with SS and Supermotos.

Mille are stupid quick imo. Took a mates out once, almost poo'd myself and took it back
Fazer? bandit? Both decent bikes, good for long distance, they are comfy :y:.

fully faired, which takes the bandit out of the equation cammy. and if you are aware that the SV wasnt aimed for the fast market, why comment on how shit it was for speed ect ? and how do you know, if Jordan can handle the sports position for too long? maybe he has a problem with his arms, back ect, which is why he opted for that style of bike.
the Fazer is a great bike, naked, fully faired or partially faired!

20th January 2011, 21:49
Considered the Gsr-600?
I test rode one, and thought it was ace. Fairly cheap for what they are aswell.
SV's don't really tickle my fancy. Just noisy. Lol
Failing that, what about a Pre-injection R6 or a Cbr600f-4- I know a couple of people with them that are restricted, and seem to go fairly well. :)

But then again tonto, someone who has problems with their back, legs, arms or whatever DONT HAVE much of a choice in what bike that will be comfortable to them, they cant get comfortable and looks all in one.
End of the day, the point you are missing, is either way, he will be restricted to 33BHP, therefore nothing is going to be speedy quick for him.

i like bikes to be 2 stroke lol, for me the aprillia rs250 is a nice option, as is the rgv250
both need the best 2 skoke oil but i love the way a 2 stroke delivers is power, and a fair bit of tlc is advisable

a friends brother had a gs500f thing and that was a woeful commuter bike. it made me depressed when i heard that parralel(sp) twin pull up before a ride, we were all there donned in our best power ranger leathers and and shoei lids and he came out in a nittro helmet and gortex.
luckily he was never close enough to be asscoiated with us lmao.
strokers have had there day imo they should be kept to moto x etc unless its a cr 500 SM then im all over it.
i thinks a gsx600f maybe a good shout if its the one im thinking off.

I'd get an old CBR600, bulletproof and the older versions are more like a sports tourer anyway.
I honestly wouldnt get something nice as a first big bike, because you will drop it. Get something old and shit, learn to ride, then get a nice bike.
Mate a work's got a SV1000 and its a bit poo really. Well, compared to the passenger ride I got on my mates GSXR750!

i had the joys of owning a GS500F for a SHORT period of time.
cheap as fuck to get, run and insure! suited me well for what i needed it for, nipping to collage and back! was considering getting a 110 ped, as it was only for 3 days a week when i was 17. but that was cheaper, in every means!

I do like that Yam Fazer though whoever suggested that!, only downside is that it is unfaired.
I would go for a bandit but my mate has that and we are doing a few trips together and don't really want the same bike and not a fan of them tbh, had a go on his and thats the sort of performance i am looking at, if not a smidge more, and when i say a smidge i really mean a smidge.
I do have money to spend on the bike, as i want a good one that will last and will be reliable, and nooo 250's sorry but after my 125 experience of 20-25mph up haldon hill i can assume the 250 wouldn't be much better lol.

On topic, the Monster - in all fairness - is an awesome first bigish road bike. It's got good power, it handle's like an absolute dream (even my Uncle agree'd when we swapped and i got on his k10 gixer) and it's cheap to insure etc.
However, i've owned it just over 2 years now and feel i want something with a bit more punch. But i really will miss the bike. It's an epic ride.

thanks, and sorry again.
ive lost mates on bikes, and now have a good friend in a wheel chair because of it (hes onthe forum actually) when people bang on about power, over anything else, just gets on my tits and soo many people are so unaware, and under estimate the potential of riding a bike! ive been riding for nearly 5 years, and bikes which ive riden hard for a year or two, have still managed to catch me off guard! i may have 5 years under mybelt, but in no way would i say im highly experienced, people i know whos been riding for 10-20 years will say the same!
so when you get these new kids on the block, thinking they wil be fine going from a 125 to an R1, because they once drove a 180bhp car and didnt crash, they can manage to hold a 180bhp bike in a line, really gets on my tits end!
as you know its going to end up, pretty shit for them, and the bike somepoint soon!
there are a few people on here, webby, chip, myself, who will go out of our way, to give our best advise when people on here ask about bikes. so when you get the 17 year olds saying, that their DT 125 is the best thing since slice bread, you could see how irratating it becomes.

As said by Tonto, speed isn't everything.
Thanks, my mod 1 was at 8:15 but was postponed untill further notice due to Ice and fog, but did it at 11 and did mod 2 at 12. Good luck on your test you'll be fine.
I have a car and have for 3 years now and thats my main love, its more of a weekend/tourer bike but i would want the ability to just jump on and go to uni on it. if you know what i mean, so pretty much NO SUPERBIKES .
I do like the odd styled bikes like The new Kawa ER9n or somin..

Jordy, be a man, buy my uncles 2008 Honda CRF450 frame with a CR500 2 stroke engine in. It would even give shitface Tonto a run for his money ;)
Seriously though, imo you should have a look around at the cheaper/older 400 bikes for your first bike, might not be the quickest, best looking but bang for buck they are spot on. Would be good for learning about bikes aswell as there fairly easy to ride and as 'sketchy' to ride as say a '10 R6 ;)
But what would I know, I only ride anything that has got knobbly tyres haha

And remember that you should look for a bike that's going to restrict well, you don't want to get a bike that's going to cut off all the top end power etc.
And i'd thing twice before riding a "restricted" bike. A bloke got his bike taken off him for a few weeks by the police and put on a rolling road and it turned out the ECU off ebay was set to 40BHP not 33BHP.

I really really REALLY REALLY do not want a 'sketchy' 'twitchy' bike, as i have said i have been riding for 4 days, i don't want something that is not very forgiving and will throw me off at one small wrong move.

I did my test on a Honda XR125 with 12 hp its gonna take some getting used to 33hp let along 70hp! so i am sticking with 33hp for the 2 years. serious.............

I'd say non fuel injected as your first bike in that case Jord
Makes a massive difference in how quickly the bike reacts

you make it sound like he wants something just abit slower than a push chair ...
tbf, if you are bothered about the throttle reaction, then you need to get injection.
1) i doubt youd notice much difference
2) when you upgrade to a bigger / newer bike you'll have a better understanding of the throttle.
ignore the size of the bike, cross that bridge when you've dropped it.

The amount of people I know that get a big bike and instantly turn into Rossi is stupid... then fall off trying to get their knee down going round a roundabout.
How about a sport-tourer?

Or going too fast and getting wheel wobble and shitting a brick untill you can correct it :zainy: happened to me at 140 mph going round a bend, started easing off the throttle a little and corrected itself then... *PINNED*
getting knee down is good fun actually, i used to do it in normal riding even in town as here we have tons of streets that have winds coming into them

left knee was a problem for me untill i was on a damp patch with a bit of diesel on it. i applied abit to much gas at the wrong time and pow. i was essentially crashing hit the dry road again and all was good ever since then i always found my left easier.
steering dampers are another life saver ive found on some of the roads near me, the k5 600 i road had a 30mm jack up kit on it and it was so twitchy and on more than one occasion dropping the front after a yump its helped me out.
another thing to think of is this, ride slow to go fast. sounds daft i know. best thing i ever did was going out with more experinced riders and copying there tecnique, only going slower. a trackday later and a chat with the california super bike school and i was much faster than them.
learning on a slower bike teaches you to be smooth and progressive rather than these straight line Joes who nail it when it upright, grab a shit load of brake, trail the front brake through the corner then squirt off down the next straight.

Right, Despite all the help, (really appriciate it) i am going to look for an SV650, not too Fast but not granny pace, Faired for keeping wind off the cold knees and not a full sports bike so easy on my back etc but not a bolt upright postiion.
£1800 for this one:

Haven't read the whole thread. But an SV will get boring pretty quick.
I had a '04 plate zx6r at 17 and did 26k on it. Although not great for touring.
Maybe look at bigger cc v twins

nice, i had a ZXR250A when i had my restricted licence. alot of fun, revved to 20,000rpm and looked very sporty. not good for touring on tho, concrete saddle and riding position that killed ur arms after 100 miles. was gonna streetfighter it, but smashed it into a roundabout :( is dead now :'(
