it sounds asthough its coming from the sump area. it only happens when i shut off and the engine is breaking .the faster im going the faster the knock becomes. i can inly describe it as though something is knocking on the body of the engine bay! but it sounds like the driveshaft. it also doesnt do it when the wheels are turned even slightly! only when going in a straight line!

any ideas people?

On which engine?

I had a knocking which followed the revs of the engine, an oil changed sorted it out.

simple thing, does it do it when stationary and the cars revved, if so then it could be big end bearings. if not then you know its driveshaft or other connecting device, ie exhaust, mount etc.

no it doesnt do it when stationary. only when you shutoff and/or brake very lightly.

like i say im doing the conversion later tonight so hopefully i should see what it is making the knocking!

its like a constant knocking on the bodywork

check the front wheel nuts. mine sounded similar to what your describing and when i rang my mate out (who's a Mechanic) he discoverd my wheel nuts on the passanger side were loose...

yeah annoyed the hell out of me for 3 days... lucky it never fell off though... And it getting faster when the car speeded up would make sence aswell as the wheels are obviously going quicker...
if that is the problem take them all out and then put them back in after puuting some copper grease on them.
