Right after some though ive decidedi want to do this
Been saying for a while to myself id like too so few questions basically if anyone can help before i even start stripping the car i have

Basically rough spec im thinking

205 rallye
106 GTI throttle bodied 1650cc high comp
1.9 front subframe hubs ect
bolt in cage
Welded seat rails
polycarbs
internal brake lines ect
Coilovers and bushes ect

now i THINK that will be an b2 modified production class car????
I know it wont be extremely competitive but im just starting so dont want too fast lol

if anyone can point me in the direction of the rules i would hugely appreciate it as i can only seem to find lists of classes listing engine sizes they allow

Also any input on things like what you would reccomend in the car itself incase ive missed something like i wouldnt be allowed to have a 16v in what should have an 8v in ect???

Basically a biginners guide to hill climbing would be nice haha!!

The blue book is available on-line here (http://www.msauk.org/site/cms/contentviewarticle.asp?article=1101)

Depending on the scrutineer they might be grumpy about you fitting a Gti engine in a Rallye as the Rallye was a 1.4 TU and not an XU motor from the factory.

For production classes you need to keep trim fitted but sound deadening & carpet can come out, bucket seats are allowed & no cage is required.

Also depending on your area only list 1A tyres are allowed, you'd need to check with local car club for details.

miamibluebaby
28th January 2011, 10:30
best bet is join a local club, and get along to some events, as said the blue book is the bible! had a serious look into this when i had my 1.3 rallye

AlexB
28th January 2011, 10:32
Hmmmm pants
The car im looking at is a shell is the problem so no trim apart from dash lol
Id rather a cage (ive rolled a car before so worry) what class would a stripped caged car be in??

Ill read the blue book later on thankyou :Y:

This is an email i sent to one of the guys at the HSA about the A1 class 1400cc may be of use

Ali

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you, I keep getting sidetracked. Thanks for the comments on the web site I'll pass them on to the guys who run it.

Yes your car in standard form will be classed as an upto 1400cc Road-going Production Car; which would be class A1 in the HSA championship.

As for modifications, then you cannot strip the interior. You can change the drivers seat for a fully trimmed competition version (it does not specify any compliance with a standard). And you can remove the carpets, but that's it.

You can do pretty much what you want to the engine as long as it remains the same type and in the same place and within the capacity limits of the class.

The regs say that the suspension configuration must remain standard.

Does this answer your questions?

Feel free to ask me any more.

Cheers

Wil

Subject: Where to get started??

Hi wil,

Im writing to ask a few questions, first i would like to say how well the HSA site is set out.

Im wanting to compete my 106 S1 Rallye 1.3, at the moment this is my daily drive, i presume the category this falls into is the 1400cc A1 class??

- how far can i go with modification??
-i plan on stripping the car and using bucket seats, do these need to be in date FIA approved??
- how far can i go with modification to the engine, eg itb's hi-comp pistons etc

Any help or advice is much appreciated,

Regards,

Ali Kerr

Right so not having interior means it wont be production class ill be modified then as the car im looking the 1360 doesnt run and the interiors gone :S

AlexB
28th January 2011, 11:07
Would that be b3 class then??

Dave what class does your 106 run in?

if i fitted a 106 gti motor i assume id get put in the same as you and its 1400-1800 so i could use the engine ive been uilding for my 106 80mm wossners it would be 1650??

AlexB
28th January 2011, 12:34
Rule 11.5.2 in the hillclimb specific says must make and type in at least 1000 produced cars so an xu is out :( tu 16v it is the.

Dave_P
28th January 2011, 16:59
In the mod prod class the head is free so you can fit a mi head to a 1.9 XU... Or just fit a mi engine like most folk do. ;)

If you fit a tu5j4 you'll end up in a sports libre class, if you want to keep it a 1.4 tu you could fit a 16v head to it.

In Scotland we have a class for same family engine swap tin tops "C0" but I don't think it exists in England.

Our classes are slightly different, I can run in b2 (mod prod 1.4-2.0) or C0 (saloon libre) with my 106.

you need to find the motorclub you are going to run in and then get their specific rules. There are basics in the blue book but there seems to be variation club to club.
Getting a 205 gti may be a better option.

AlexB
28th January 2011, 18:28
Kam ive got a 1.9 gti but its shagged with tinworm and a duff head gasket so was thinking of usijg it as a parts car

Ill try and find my local club then i thought it would be set rules throghout the country :( and dave in sports libre i assume there will be a lot faster stuff as iirc westfeilds and stuff are in there??

Any ideas on a club in the west midlands/coventry are??? Lol

Dave_P
28th January 2011, 20:00
Ye you might have single seaters in sports libre... Unless your local car club does a saloon libre class... Or you come race in Scotland. ;)

Try here.

If you are after a 205 shell then I might have a mint sorrento one available. I cannot see me having time to rebuild it fully as I get my other 205 race shell back in a week or so and I have toys to bolt on..

Dave_P
28th January 2011, 23:19
If your serious about building a hillclimb car you'll save a fortune buying one already built.

Hmmm i do love sorrento buy i dont have any way of fetching it lol the rallye ive found is semi local and he doesnt mind delivering only bad thing is someones cut and fitted a sunroof but was a thread on that the other day lol plus it would be a much better use for the itbs and wossners ect i have i need to get onto the local club and see tbh before i commit to anything

If your serious about building a hillclimb car you'll save a fortune buying one already built.

I dont have the cash to outright buy one :( and i like to spanner normally aimlessly tbh hence i bought my gti to keep me busy but its fucked lol im not in a rush as my nana would be elgable for a2 i think after looking apart from the front seats but for what mine are worth i could sell and buy some imolas or something to get into it whilst building and seeing what the 205 would need

Dave_P
29th January 2011, 10:41
What's up with your front seats?

AlexB

not including 2 blocks a late type head and several other bits covers ancillarys alternators ect haha so it makes sence to me to use that lot for something got a load of 8v stuff too for some reason and some twin 40 dellortos

Dave_P
3rd February 2011, 21:18
Cool. :)

Honestly, if you intend using the mi engine speak to the right people to address the oil issues they have.
If you do that now it'll have you a heap of hassle further down the road.

AlexB
3rd February 2011, 21:25
really dont think ill be putting an mi in after a few bits of looking i think staying tu is better as its at least the same family of engine rather than from something totally different plus as said allready got a lot so saves messing and the tu doesnt have many oil issues ect so bit better saves a little weight too lol

As you can see no rust has come through in the rear (as expected tbh) but theres a small amount of surface rust in the bay which ill attack when the engine is out im thinking of painting the bay and whole underside if the car anyway aswell as redoing the interior after welding in seat rails and cage feet lol

More to come as im taking it right to a bare shell and starting from scratch :panic:

AlexB

Right the easy part is finished now itll be onto the exterior/underside/mechanicals in a few weeks im having to wait till ive got my nana sorted turns out its done the usual 3plug ecu trick and just failed completely gone into limp mode and died :S so some of the cash for this is getting a dent

Anyway the interior is pretty clean heres a piccy (seatbelts are now gone too)

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx238/penis4000/2011-02-13130839.jpg

Ill.get my nana gti sorted out and then crack on with this asap getting it down to a bare shell haha also got a lot to mock up with so ill probably get the motor in the bay quite quick even if it has no internals

43k engine aha

It might im undecided still on cc i think it may be though im just looking into it all

AlexB
1st March 2011, 12:21
Right slight setback on this (still got loads to do anyway) but all of the engine stuff i mentioned is gone to my 106 as i need a car daily and 185bhp everyday well i couldnt resist lol
I still have a motor to mock up with it just means ill need to save more but ill be quicker in class a lol

KamRacing
1st March 2011, 13:00
so what engine will you now go for? Same plan? I've just collected my 205. Theres no way it would be in anything but sports libre though if I hillclimbed. Needs a full respray now though

AlexB
1st March 2011, 13:06
Same plan 16v probably a 1400 as dave says itll be more fun then as i can be quite well paced
im talking to a lad about a s1600 pugsport jp4 inlet and tb he has that i may snap up in a few months

i currently still have the 80mm wossners but ideally need to sell them to fund mapping lol
Ill get the chassis built first i think tbh then engine last maybe just take the one out my 106 when im at that stage i dunno lol

What spec is your 205??

KamRacing
1st March 2011, 14:19
It will hopefully be an XU 1.6 16v engine but I want to get it running on a near standard engine first. Its got a 1.8 306 xsi engine currently which I will bolt a gti-6 head and hopefully some throttlebodies (just waiting for a friend to design his own)
