Only thing that annoys me with all this Hype on mega mpg..is that however much companies develop the cars in being efficient with lean burn technology and aerodynamics... It's always going to be the driver that dictates the Mpg they're gonna get.
I'd rather drive around at the speed limit , not having to concentrate as much. Than drive to France and back in 5th gear at 30mph. :D
Sorry for my rant.

Well yeah, it was more than 30. but still.. I'd rather get to my destination on time, than turning up half a day late.. " Err, sorry i'm late for your Bar-mitzvah.. I was being an Eco warrior.." Lol
Be faster too!

I think, anyone who owns a 1.4D AX can piss on that TBH.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_AX
In 1989 a naturally aspirated diesel AX, using the 1360 cc all aluminium alloy TUD engine, managed a figure of 2.7 litres per 100 kilometres (100 mpg-imp; 87 mpg-US), totalling over 1,000 miles (1,609 km) from Dover to Barcelona. This was the longest ever distance travelled on 10 imp gal (45.5 L; 12.0 US gal) of fuel and earned it a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the most economical production car.
Yes, 100mpg. The only reason the Polo is seen as a world record, is cause it went further, courtesy of it's bigger tank.

meh! I get 45mpg out of a clio 172. I'd lose more in depreciation on a new car than what I would save in fuel.

this mpg is nothing compared to the new vw x1 that was in auto car last week it can do 321mpg lol it looks crap though and 0-60 of 11.9 and top speed of 100mph so it isnt completely crap compared to other eco cars , dunno when its going to be on sale but the estimated price was between £40k and £100k lol

We managed an average of 50+ in a mate's 172 Cup. Admittedly, we were sat AT 50MPH, on the A1, but we made sure it stayed above 50MPG.
