Hi.

Looking to buy a car tomorrow but we cant meet untill 6pm.

The car is 2.30h away so im not prepared to give a deposit and come back.

Whats the time limit on getting 5k from the bank? can i go in there today and go collect 5k tomoz?

Also, in terms of a bankers draft, if i take one out, and give to seller when buying, is that a viable method?

Thanks,

Craig.

Go today and take the 5K out ...

With mine the max limit is 5K to withdraw anyway so shouldnt be a problem if you went today.

i dunno about other banks, but santander need 48 hours to withdraw over £500 from the counter, but you can ring to see if they have it available that day, and if they do you can take it.
iirc a bankers draft is just like a cheque so thats gotta clear too.
id just ring round and see if any local branches have the funds :)

some people might be grumpy and be like no you have to give 48 hours notice, but just get them to ring like all the branches in your area. they might be able to do some today and some tomorow at another branch :)

delux, i work for santander and i know for a fact its 48 hours. just if your lucky they might have the amount you need on that day. its always worth ringing first to make sure anyway, saves you going round all the branches

Thanks for the reply.

Only other option im guessing is online transfer but only if seller is with same bank.

Guessing people dont accept bankers drafts?

Meh , well i just turned up and they gave me it , Does that mean banks wont have £5K in without it being arranged ? Not having a dig just curious

To OP , Probably best calling them then if i was lucky to get it without calling ahead i tried bank transfer but unless its same bank it was going to take 5 working days or something, Failing that a balaclava should do the trick

you can request a chaps payment which is meant to be instant to any bank but it has to be done before a certain time of day and normally clears by the end of that day.
online transfer isnt always guaranteed instant even with santander to santander accounts if its the first time your doing it, can take up to 24 hours.
if you do it over the phone they have to complete further security and because of the amount you'd need to have a call back within 3 hours but that has to be done before a certain time too. and if its not santander to santader its gunna take 3-4 working days.
so defo say your best bet is to try get it over the counter :y:

I have withdrawn large quantities of money without even calling before hand, I would just call today and go down on your lunch break or something

Don't be a fucking nutter and take £5k out in cash, anything could happen. Don't you have internet banking? If you do, you can do the transfer right there and then in front of them, anyone like Barclays/Natwest will show the money up within 30 minutes without the time of day affecting it.

I read that it takes 3-4 days if you don't have same bank

CAN take that time. If the banks are in close relation like Natwest and Barclays then it's more or less instantaneous. Who do you bank with?

Nicole, varies from bank to bank, might even vary from branch to branch depending on location.

All you can do is ring up, there's literally no harm in it at all.

you were trained wrong then haha, or the bank you are with is crap.

if i've ever wanted large sums of money, i ring them, tell them i want my moeny, they say fine. i go and draw it out.

the point is, hes already said hes with santander, which means what natwest and halifax do are irrelevant lol
and we are told it HAS to be 48 hours notice unless they have the funds available. a branch will carry a certain amount of money a day, and if no-ones booked it out and you ring to take it, then you can take it. otherwise you wont get it lol.

i'm with alliance & leicester/santander. Never had an issue getting my money but i've never asked for over 5k

i managed to take out 2.7k out of my bank account without a single problem walked in and said can i have this amount and they gave it me :) but as nicole said probs best to ring up and ensure you can get it

I took 5k with me when I went to buy the Zafira, just be aware of people and dont broadcast the fact and no one will know.
