Was talking to someone at work and he reckons if you don't have a spare wheel on your car it cannot pass it's MOT is this true or is he chatting poo

You dont need a spare, and if you do have 1 it can be bald, and still pass :y:

havent got a spare on mine and it passed late december. if you DO have a spare and its FLAT/BALD/FUCKED UP MEGA....you'll fail. Just take it off for the test, can't lose then.

He's wrong, lots of cars don't have spare wheel anyway Smart, BMW's etc, If it's bald or damaged then it will fail but not if it's not there at all!!!

Spare isn't tested, saying it will fail if it's bald is just like saying you'll fail if you've got a spare decat exhaust system in your boot.

See when i was at college doing mechanics a few years ago when i left school, i was told that an underinflated/bald spare will fail an MOT, yet i never see anyone check mine when i take my car in, so i think my teacher was telling lies! lol

How it works is if you have a spare it has to be road legal if fitted to the car as a road wheel. But there is no law requiring a spare.

Its like anything on the mot, if you dont have one they cant fail you for it

Road Wheels only are checked as part of an MOT.

The spare can be in any state you wish. As long as it is secured safely then they cannot fail you. Can advise you for it, but not fail you.

Exactly.. so if it's in the spare wheel holder it's a spare wheel.. If it's my wheel with a bald tyre I leave on the passenger seat it will pass...
