hi,looking at getting another car as a second car,a more prctical car than the vts, looking at a really smart 2002 astra coupe bertone ed. the guy has said this though;
"last week the car developed a fault in the gearbox it still drives but there is a clicking when you turn i had a mechanic look at it he said it is the differential in the gearbox"
is this an expensive thing,dont mind spending some cash on it as would be getting it cheap, will it need whole new gearbox,
cheers guys

clicking when turning sounds like cv's. but if it is the box then vauxhall boxes dont tend to sell for a massive amount so you could just replace the whole box if the cars going cheap enough, if its not an absolute bargain id just look for one thats not fucked

As said,clicking when turning will be a CV joint.You would know if it was the gearbox just by driving it.
The 1.8 16v Coupe had the F17cr gearbox.Shouldn't be hard too pick 1 up from the vauxhall forums for not alot of money.
Car looks tidy,if you can get it for about 800quid your laughing.
Beware though,the 1.8s arent the best on fuel.Decent engine non the less.

i said to the guy you sure its not drive shaft or cv joint or something but said a mechanic looked at it and said it was the diff.
just spoke to mr clutch and they've qouted me 1200-1500 as would need whole new box and clutch, seems alot to me.

Aye but thats from Mr Clutch.
2nd hand working box you will probably get for less than 100quid.And about the same for a clutch kit.Then some1 to fit it if you cant do it yourself.
Are you friends with any mechanics??

Now managed to source a 2nd hand box for £200 and another gearbox specialist in my town said they'll fit it for £300
