i found that by phoning up the companies, they are more likely to give you a better deal..
i pay £920 a year, 3 years ncb, 6 points, jap import, engine change and mods declared..
to prove a point to my mate, i put in all my details into a couple of comparison websites and the cheapest quote i got was £1900..
phone for a better deal buddy ;)

You'll always do better to ring the companies directly!!! I've never had a cheap quote from any comparison site, a few year ago I was paying just over £300 fully comp on my VTR with adrian flux, the cheapest quote I got from any comparison sites was nearly double that. Have you tried adding family members as named drivers (only ones with clean driving history) I added my sister and dad to mine and it went down nearly £80, guess they thought with them driving would keep me out of the car more, thus less risk.

The best way to get a good deal with insurance is either to not insure your car at all, or lie through the insurance saying your 25 with 6 years no claims and a fake name when your only 18.
WIN.

driving with no insurance, 6 points 200 quid fine.. thats how i got my points.. although it was a misunderstanding through my insurance, that i thought i could drive any other car 3rd party.. what a bad day :(

Comparison sites are gash, hugely inflated prices go direct.

How old are you and what was the price you got quoted?
Insurance is meant to be calculated on a risk factor but with the randomness of prices, I reckon they just charge what they like.
Comparison sites tend to make a lot of assumptions after filling out minimal details and when you go to take the quote you will probably find one of the assumptions was wrong and bang!! Up goes your price

Best option is to ring around, gets you a much better deal

Use comparison sites to find the 3 cheapest then go direct to the site. Then ring up to get an even better deal imo. Never buy online.

Hi guys and OP - Insurance is my forte so I can assist here! Going on aggregator sites (i.e. go compare, compare that bloody meerkat lol ) is a great way to figure out what your cheaper insurers will be. From there, ignore your quotes and go direct to the insurer.
Remember that the person on the other end of the phone wants a sale - the best part of their salary is based on their sales target - so if you hum and har about the price they quote, they will often go to great lengths to undercut the underwriters original risk based pricing and get you a better quote.
Some other ways to get cheaper insurance (that are legit and have no risk of repudiations/voidances - don't lie to your insurers folks it may only cause you heartache later) are to :
1. If you're young or inexperienced, consider putting a more experienced driver on, one with a good driving and no claims history. I had £70 quid knocked off my last quote by actually adding another driver on lol.
2. Don't be pressured into additional extras that you have to pay extra for, such as legal cover. If you're not at fault for an accident, you can go to any number of good accident management companies that will do the same job for free. This will save you anywhere between £10 - £30 quid on average.
3. Consider how much excess you can afford in the event of an accident claim if you're insuring fully comp. Get quotes from the sales person on exactly how much you can reduce your premium by by increasing your voluntary excess. Again, by opting for a £100 excess, I saved myself an additional £60.
And on a more extreme level, insurers consider lower risk drivers to be homeowners, married and/or with children. Though in the long run these options may prove slightly more expensive than saving a few quid on your insurance! :D
Hope this helps
