I'm a plumber looking to buy a van, something like a Citroen Berlingo, Transit Connect, Vauxhall combo etc
Looking to spend about £1k but can up that to nearer £2k if needs be
Needs to have power steering and ideally remote central locking. Alarm would be great aswell
Sub 80k mileage ideally
Cheap to insure
Any suggestions?
Cheers, Chris :y:

I dare say at the least you won't find a Connect for that price! Have you tried searching on Google for local dealers to you or Ebay?

if your a p,umber a decent size van is needed tbf, should be able to get a small transitfor about 2k around the 51/02 plate, can get better cheaper looking for bargains, bu a decent tranit round that year should be about 2k

stay away from cheap ford diesels, got a transit tdci in at the minute thats done 60k and customer paid good money for it. Was in last week for injectors (165 pounds each plus labour) and this week a clutch and dual mass flywheel (595 pounds plus labour) so on a cheap van these problems, which are common, are going to make it an expensive van, because even at 2 grand, a Connect as blackie says, isn't going to be up to much and probably done a zillion miles. Berlingos are ok as budget vans go but i'm biased!

Astra van (mk4) are pretty reliable with the 1.7 isuzu engine in them or the 2.0 eco-tec, we use them all the time at work, pretty nippy after a remap and economical if you take it easy :y:

Yeah I would get a SWB transit as well tbh, can fit so much more in them if you need to. i'm looking for one atm and as said you will get a decent one for around 2k around that age with about 80ish k miles on

No no no no no no no no no no no!
The pilot's based on the 200 and is fucking shit, the windscreen's so small even a midget has to duck down to see out of and theyre horrendous to drive..
The maxus falls to bits and the paint fades...

considered one of them mate but the back is a bit small and low i think. still an option though and a lot of them seem to come ply lined which is good

i like the new ones but the old ones look a bit poo. not that looks really matter with a van... but i'm not sure about 'fiat' either

Chris,it may say Fiat on the front of a Scudo but underneath its a Citroen Dispatch/Peugeot Partner, dependant on age it'll either have a XU9,DW8 or Hdi diesel engine, all of which are pretty reliable. Gearboxes are a bit of a weak spot on them, we used to service a fleet of 10 Dispatchs and most of them had gearboxes at some point, saying that they were worked to death and driven by maniacs lol
chris_ph2

Lol ah right cool cheers mate will reconsider them then and also check out partner/dispatch :)

You bought a Berlingo yet?
Only downside to the Berlingo though apart from being "cheap" is the non turbo models, labourer of mine had one and it was slower than my Dads trucks!!

6th February 2011, 15:10
Lol ah right yeah fuck getting a non turbo
This kangoo looks good - 79k, full mot, 6 months tax, fsh, recent service and cambelt, all good tyres, remote central locking

the last van we leased was a berlingo, i think the 1.6 hdi engine is in it, were now leasing vw caddys. imo id steer clear, there awful things to drive, pedals are too close together to drive in workboots, bugger all room if your relatively tall. Admittedly its been thrashed a bit but its only done 80k, the engine sounds rough as hell, gearbox is rubbish, clutch is going for the second time as the things got no power/torque so you have to thrash it when its loaded in short its pants lol. although it may just be a bad one I guess?
