Very boring, my mk5 lasted 6 months.

Could you not pick up one of the Cupra TDIs though for that kind of money? At least it looks better than the Golf.

Mk4s its only the 1.4/1.6 engined ones as far as I know which are shit

"Hole punctured in gearbox casing due to a sheared rivet on the differential.

The rivets attaching the final drive gear to the differential are inadequate and shear off, usually around 50k miles"

I bet half the people who have posted 'Golf' in here haven't even driven one...

Saying 'Golf' to a "What Diesel" thread is almost like saying saying "Needs Lowering" in the pictures thread!

£6k, I'd have one of these over a golf any day of the week.

I have been looking for the same but a bit lower budget
So far I have looked at:

Fabia VRS Diesel

VW Golf Mk4 1.9 TDi
Astra 1.7 CDTi SRi (16v)

also a........... .................VW Beetle 1.9 TDi

I've driven a golf and it was very nice, nippy and had lots of room. If your going to mod it in any way I would say get a Bora as they look sweet when modded.

People can not read today can they. He said all BUT vags are slow as fuck! Technically the fabia is a VAG therefore it is not slow as fuck.

Although its still a 5 door diesel skoda :n:

Why does it have to be a hatch??

Go for an E46 330d M Sport.Would get a decent 2001/2 model in your budget.Fantastic cars and go like fuk.

Or if it has to be a hatch then as said,a Mk5 Astra CDTi 150.With or without a tuning box,itl wipe the floor with the equivilent VAG cars.

Hell aye.Could pick up a good 1 for 5k these days.

My mate sold his about 6mth ago for 4.5k.Was a 2001 330d M Sport with 97k in immaculate condition.Couldn't get it shifted or any interest. He says he got 4.5k but i suspect he took less.
