okay after a search i have sort of found my answer but just want to find someone else out, people are saying they drill a hole to mount the lap mounting point by the handbrake where abouts do you drill the hole though? as i dont want to drill through anything, and what size eye bolts do i need as im going to use eye bolts in the back instead of the bolts so i can unclip them and use my normal seatbelt if anyone wants to get in the back

If you wish to stay safe i would mount them as per the MSA blue book. Just watch out though as most race harnesses are NOT road legal and as well as being illegal to use on the road will fail a proper MOT. You have to use BS standard harnesses if you want to use them on the road. That or retain your oem belts for road use :)

erm whats the msa blue book? and im going for sparco harnesses so should be fine on the road. i was thinking of drilling into the bit by the handbrake and getting one of the mounting plates and putting it on the underside of the car and bolting it that way so its still secure, would that work?

Shoulder straps are most easily mounted here:

Right hand lap belt can be easily mounted here:

(same for left hand belt on passenger's side)

The two inner ones are the issue, as you've said. If you're fitting a side mounted bucket or a base mounted bucket then you can sometimes fit an eye bolt to the side of the sub frame.

I didn't have space there so I drilled the bottom of the side mount and fitted an eye bolt there, but in doing this you MUST use a bolt of similar heaftiness (I used the one I removed when taking the standard belt buckle off the standard seat frame)) to mount that corner of the side mount bracket to the sub frame rather than/as well as the M5/M6 bolts you would usually use to prevent the corner of the bracket being pulled from the subframe in an accident. Like this:

I'm in no way saying that this is the best/safest way of doing this, but at least now any pressure through the belt is being sent through an eye bolt (designed to do it) to a seatbelt mounting bolt (designed to do it) and then to the original seat mounting points (Which since the belt buckle on standard seats are fitted to the seat frame, are designed to do it). It's certainly a more substantial than the way the attatchment for the standard belt is fitted to the subframe and the subframe is BS Road certified...

That subframe also came with a mounting point for the standard belt clip you can see in at the top of the pic. Sadly there was not enough room to add the eye bolt to this assembly.

If you're retaining original seats as I have with the passenger's side, then you can replace the original buckle mounting bolt for an eye bolt which then allows you to run either standard belt or a harness should you wish.

Obviously if your choice of harnesses are not clip in then just replace the word 'eye bolt' with 'harness bolt' (ie, bolt your harnesses to the same points rather than clip them) and you're sorted.

If you're using base mounted seats and find you do not have space on the subframe to mount an eye bolt or harness bolt, then you'll have to drill the floor. As AX said, if you look up on the MSA website you should be able to find the online copy of the blue book to see what way is reccomended. It's usually a case of drilling a hole to mount it to then using a captive nut in the middle of a reinforcing plate like this:

http://89.206.185.119/images/product/product/wil_fittings-stress-plate.jpg

on the back side of the pannel you've drilled to spread the load better and prevent the bolt pulling through what would be a relatively thin sheet of steel.

I hope that helps or atleast gives you some ideas.

No problem :y:

They're a 7/16" UNF thread the same as the standard fasteners so these (http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Motorsport/Harnesses_Accessories/Harness_Eye_Bolts_Plates/Demon_Tweeks_1_Inch_Eyebolt/1758/0/174184) will swap straight over from your original bolts.

Just make sure that when you thread them in (patricularly in the case of the lap belt fasteners) that the eylet is in line with where they will be pulled from so that any force pulling on it doesn't try tightening or loosening it. Hard to explain but you can see what I mean in my pics if you look at the orientation of the eyelet to the direction of the belt.

Only the passenger's seat is standard in the pics. Anyway, a 3point/4point harness does a great job at holding you more securely even in the standard seats.

I put my lap belt loops through the bolt that holds the bucket seat to the floor. Will get a picture in the morning.
