I am potentially getting a mk4 golf gti turbo of a friend of mine
It has a years mot and 6 months tax and modified with
R32 alloys
Coilovers
Updated dump valve
Cold air feed
Forge diverted
Bigger brakes
And more

Just wandering if there is Any pros and cons to look out for with buying a golf as I have never had one before

Any help much appreciated

Is the turbo an after market thing? Didn't know they ever came with them from factory.

Suppose the usual turbo'd engine checks, white smoke on start, purple smoke on ten minute warm engine idle, leaking turbo, whirring/whistling sound on boost, usual check of sills as Golfs have a tendency to get rusty ones, check in and around the boot for rust too, check those coilovers for leaking, check wheel bearings.....

Otherwise, as much as I'm not a fan of that shape, VW's have their bulletproof reputation for a reason. There's also a forum dedicated to that particular model which I'd recommend reading as it's chock-a-block with info :)

No not after Market turbo
It's the 1.8 20v turbo

The coilovers are brand new Jamex coilovers

Thanks I will sign up for the forum asap and get some ideas

Haha, fuck me...completely forgot about that model. Ok well the above checks as far as the turbo are concerned are what I'd be doing. Plus this: http://www.turbotechnics.com/turbo/tips.htm

still worth checking shocks, brand new or not...could be defective and put your life at risk. How much is he selling it for?

boring. got a lift off a mate to pick up my vtr last night, his is 280bhp and boosts to 24psi. the saxo felt faster (although it wasnt by a long shot) and felt much more fun in the lanes

Must have had alot of money spent on it to get it to 280
There 150 standard

I have been through my saxos now so gonna try out a new scene

Different league in every respect. One mans boring is another mans happyness at little to no rattles, lack of constant problems, weak engineering and frankly dated performance.

When you say as standard, do you mean when the Golf was standard and not tuned?

Theyre shit, boring and ugly..

Those R32 alloys look wrong on anything less than 3200cc..

Jamex overs are cheap shit btw, very popular in the dub scene as it means you can "slam it on its arse" and put the rest of your money towards wheels that dont fit properly...

Everything apart from the bonnet bra and induction kit as will be removing both for standard induction kit I I get it

From what the vag fanboys i know have told me, a dumpvalve ruins the 20vt and runs shit or loses power one of the two.. re-circ FTL :n:

Another fail to put me off owning one.

DanViner

They have them fitted as standard though just not very loud ones I think not 100% so how can it ruin the performance on it

They have a re-circ one like i just said..

Re-circ btw means Re-circulated as in rather than blowing it off puts it back threw so no TSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH..

Which as i said is another con making them even shitter :n:

dump valves are unecessary for any car with a turbo aren't they? I'm sure I remember reading that they're just a sign that the turbo isn't being utilised fully.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
