whats it for ? track use or road etc.

RX8's are nice to drive but i wouldnt be spending £10-12k on one, you would be better to pic one up for around £6k and then spend some money on suspension bits and up'ing the BHP. like this 600bhp twin turbo version :)

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1081/5117832135_a3968f5a8f_z.jpg

Pics/ videos or gtfo lol!,

GTR 's are much better cars mate, again you can modify a GTR the same as any other car such as your M3's etc etc, all depends on driver and all the other bullshit.

I aint come across one beemer driver who was brave enough in the corners, with the gtr you lose your bottle before it loses grip!

mate I would my mum has owned renault clios for the last 10 years and all they did is break down clio mk1.5 went through headgaskets like a prozzy goes through condoms, clio mk2 something was always up with the electrics. My cousin owns a megane mk1 and he has had trouble with that since he owned it, exhaust fell off, it developed a horrid missfire, the fuel gauge doesnt work, the headlights go off when you hit a speedhump. New renaults are supposed to be good but after what iv heard and seen then im staying away.

Hey,

A bit more info might be useful in terms of acceptable running costs/insurance/maintenance as they vary widely depending on cars.

I was in the same position a few years back and after looking at the options I bought an S2000 and an Impreza turbo 2000 both for 12k.

Turbo was used when it was wet/cold, S2000 was used the rest of the time. Pm me if you want more details of living with them, circa 3 years 30k miles.

However I don't imagine your father to be in his 20's so I would probably discount what I would refer to as the more hardcore vehicles. For example my father will not drive my brothers pro drive STI because its too hardcore and this was the same with my S2000 so that is perhaps a consideration.

So you need to be more specific about his requirements and usage... if it is his main driver or will be used a lot then:

For 10-12k there is nothing that can compete with an E46 M3 in terms of an all round package for that money. That is in terms of brand, quality, how it makes you feel, acceleration, handling and sound. Two of my neighbours have these cars, father and son and I can tell you they are awesome machines.

The downside is fairly high running costs, mpg is acceptable at around 25mpg. However parts are expensive to replace, they can be reasonable if done at a specialist vs main dealer.

However if he is looking for a 2 seater then I would go for an SLK 350 or Boxster S. ( I would not buy an S2000 again, even supercharged as when you are not on the loud pedal the other cars are a class above it just to drive about in).

Anyways thats my 2 pence.

You seriously typed all of that without reading the thread didn't you?

First post says insurance and running costs DO NOT MATTER. He also said his dad doesn't like S2k's ANYWAY, so why even mention one?

The way I see this thread is a load of suggestions, OP saying no to each, then coming back with a list of cars, few of which they can get for 12k anyway.

Thread has become pointless.
