depends on how far you want to go really and how often you're going to using them

I use a £30 decent socket set from b&q which has done 90% of the jobs needed to strip my saxo, do the wishbones, clutch etc. Of course you will need other tools such as jacks, axle stands which is where it starts to get expensive

It's just a basic set for using for little odd jobs.

I need a decent trolley jack as well

your best off just buying some cheap decent socket set and screwdrivers etc etc, just basic tools and then add to it and start getting better stuff.

iv got some halfords proffesional stuff and thats really good for what i paid

Buy decent tools now to save replacing shitty tools later.

As said, the halfords 1 that's usually on offer for 99quid is a belter.Every 2-3 months its on offer.

I have the set that comes in the hairdresser style metal case and for the jobs i do and need it for,its awesome.

snap on or Hazet tools are the best that money can buy.

do yourself a favour BBM go to glasgow on and go to bills tool store at the barras. you should have a full kit for about £30 including 1/2" drive socket set and spanners. might not be the best but atleast then you have the basics and work on it from there. (this is speaking from a guy who actually has snap on tools and halfords pro)

oh and if you break any or lose them you can easily replace them

wait till the offer comes on in aldi or lidl for the trolley jack ... doesnt matter the name it still has to lift what it says on the box

Sound man, I hate the Barra's but (reasons shown in the OF thread ;))

And i love aldi and lidl stuff, its minted quality for the price

yea and they have to replace them, i was using a 3/8 to 1/4 drive converter to get to a tight and awkward turbo flange nut and snapped a 1/4 drive extension in half, he asked how the feck did i manage that, so i just told him i was undoing a really tight 10mm bolt lmao :homme:

no problem if your actually getting a discount. I know what it is like starting out in buying tools, first thing i bought was snap on ...

have a quite a few halfords tools but are they still giving you a lifetime warrenty on the wratchet but not the mechanisms.

you said it yourself a decent budget tool kit for little odd jobs, halfords tools are great but remember what your going to be using it for.

actually ask people who use tools everyday such as the real mechanics on this site.

I have a Halfords socket set, it's very good for the price you pay. However, thats the only thing I would by from Halfords tool wise. Euro car parts for Axle Stands, and then for a trolley jack I got this gem from ebay - Item number: 250750440411 very good considering is a low entry jack :y:
