Ok so i got flashed by a standing camera 3 weeks ago, i was doing 60-70 in a 70 and didnt realise the road changed to a 50 :n: speed camera is about 500 yrds after 50 sign i was still doing 60-70. My fault but was abit gutted seems as im in my 4th year driving now never had any points. Thing is i havnt had a ticket? How long do they take? ive read loads of things but people cant seem to give a definative answer, some say 14 days, some say a month, some say 6 months. Any one shine a light? hoping im in the clear some how!

Alot of the speed camera's near me aren't Operating.

Including the Gay average speed camera's over the Cat and Fiddle..
You may have been flashed, but the camera could be just a deterrent.

people say its 2 weeks but i reckon its bullsh** if your caught speeding your caught speeding, but as said before alot of the cameras in the UK dont work so you might of got away with it being 3 weeks later, i got my ticket pretty sharpish so if you havnt had it yet i would of thought you would of got away with it

I think i read on the speed cameras here that the cameras can only take 200 pictures and there they're full.
So if it had just changed from a 70 to 50 i imagine that a lot of people would have been caught.

Dont wana get your hopes up but you might get away with it lol

Usually there in around a week.

An NIP has to be issued in 14 days. If you haven't heard anything after 3 weeks I would stop worrying.

they are having a massive cut down. some cameras in certain areas only have film put in limited times a year. most likely didnt have any film in.

Go to your local police station and tell them the situation and ask how long it should take to receive a ticket.

They have 14 days from the date of the offence to issue an NIP. You don't have to receive it in 14 days.

Whats an NIP? also this was on the M/A40 inside the M25 so its a busy road i cant imagine them not having film in the camera there

NIP = Notice of Intended Prosecution

It's what you get sent first.

I really wouldn't worry after 3 weeks mate. You should have had it by now.

why didn't you hook a 15" tyre over it, then pour a gallon of thinners in the tyre and light it

Was gonna say if its in Oxfordshire, i wouldn't worry. Talk was that they turned them all off. Most dont have lines anymore where they re-layed the road and haven't painted them back on yet. However I still dont trust them.

I thought most of the speed cameras were upgraded to be digital so they send the picture straight to a database which makes it much easier?

But if you were flashed more than 2 weeks ago and they havent sent you a letter then you haven't got any points/fine. Even if you did receive a letter now you can just ignore it.

^^ this, check pepipoo for more info but its basically theyve got 14 days to send out he nip then royal fail quote upto 14 days delivery of it. So youve got a bit longer to go.. but its not looking to bad.

After the nip they have upto 12 months to take you to court depending if you accept/fight/ignore etc.

found that out the one time i went up there at night, didn't realise they'd put them up until i got to buxton and saw one!

although they should have them back on after all that crap with the other road having a higher limit

Tbh they want your money as fast as they can - most people i know that have had them have been within a week...Personally i'd guess that you won't recieve one now and you've got lucky :) So fingers crossed

RustySkull

They have 2 weeks, if you get a letter after 2 weeks, you can appeal and you won't get the points and fine because it's improper paper work.

sounds like a very lucky boy with only 1yr ban.

the issue datre on the NIP has to be within 14 days of the offence, but as said thats the NIP issue date, not the date you receive it. So if its issued on day 14 but isn't delivered till 2 months later, afriad its tough.

To me it sounds like your prob ok, as said alot of cams tend to run out of film very quickly, especialy in recent speed limit change situations. Theres a red light camera near me that runs out within 12 hours of having the film replaced due to all the people who jump the lights.

if the NIP isnt issued within 14 days they cant prosecute.

It may have been issued already and be in the post

I would chill out though, worst case scenario its lost in the post and you'll get a reminder at some point

They have 14 days from the date of the offence to issue an NIP. You don't have to receive it in 14 days.

This ^^^

Basically, don't worry until you have an NIP on your doorstep. Even then don't worry - write back and politely explain the situation and state that you don't believe the signs were clear. This will force them into investigating before offering formal proceedings. Even now, don't panic. It will go one of 3 ways to start with:

Either you will receive a letter back stating that the police rely on the public and will withdraw the notice in this instance (it has happened)

Or you will receive a letter back offering the choice of accepting points and a fine or a speed awareness course (if your licence is clean)

Or you will receive a letter back saying tough!

If you get the letter back saying tough, you can still challenge the decision and request a court date. If you can prove that something that should have been in place wasn't in place in court you will get let off, otherwise you will end up with a fine slightly highter than the original fine and teh 3 points anyway.

I did this once and it took them 2 years to prosecute, so by the time Ihad points on my licence they were only on for less than a year before being removed again!

the law says they have 14 days to send you an nip this does not include weekends though, so if its 3 weeks you should be ok cos if it comes after the 14 days you will get away with it in a court of law it happened to my mate.

Not sure what it's like for other areas now, but recently our cameras are policed differently than before.

My dad got two tickets in a matter of weeks. Mother was in hospital, needed to visit a lot, plus the stress etc. And by writing a simple letter explaining the situation he was in and that he did not doubt he was speeding but he honestly couldn't remember driving through one of the cameras in question, alpha sleep etc. In a week he received a letter telling him that they'd quash one of the offences and issue him 3 pts and £60 fine for the other. Which he still hasn't received.
