well.....
was driving down royds moore hill in rotherham, its a country lane. just came round a corner, and there was a queue of traffic and in front was a recovery truck pulling a car out of a field. Thought he had crashed or something. i was there a a while, couldn't go anywhere, so got out car to see what was going of. The bloke had followed his satnav onto a farmers field lol!! It told him to turn left, so he turned left onto a really muddy field, only suitable for tractors really.
I couldn't believe it.
.....end of story

Some people are idiots.
My mate was nearly killed my and old guy using a sat nav. The sat nav told him to do a u-turn. My mate was on his bike coming up to some traffic lights and this guy just swung round and took him out. He was in a bad way for a long time, he still isn't properly recovered.

My sat nav tried to direct me through a barn & farm yard last week in doncaster
It has also sent me over cobbled moorland roads fo 6 miles it's a nightmare

Satnav's need updating regularly because road layouts change every day
You gotta have some common sense when using them though, surely you could see that it was taking to into a field :)
People rely on them far too much, nothing is going to be 100% accurate
Despite its faults, its still one of the best things I have bought over the years
I always google maps a route before I go to make sure I know roughly what to look for

same here. i google map everything and just try to memorize it all as i dont have a satnav, learn the sort of general direction im going,
the younger generation are gunna have no idea how to find anywhere without a satnav soon, maps will be non-existant. no-one even bothers reading road signs anymore. i think its pretty sad really

I used a sat nav last weekend to drive to birmingham, all i can say are they are so confusin! whats the deal with "go left but stay on the right then turn right in 300 yards but stay on the left" might seem easy now to understand but when you are driving its like WTF :S I think next time ill use a map!

Sat-Navs are a pain, I was at shakespeare raceway not long ago followed the sat-nav down.. went to plug it in when i left it was F**Ked. no power to it yet plug socket was fine. So i just worked my own way out coming back and took me 20mins less than it did getting there

I use My Sat Nav for work when I have no idea where the address is. Some people live in ass end of know where! Between the Sat Nav and the Plant records I can find 95% of properties in Cornwall. Although when I first started using my sat Nav, it did try to direct me down the launch ramps at Penzance :D
Just don't rely on the damn thing all the time, apply some common sense.
TBH it's taught me alot of the roads and routes, so it's rarely used :D

If people were not using it, looks wide enough to be fair :)

wide enough, but iv seen a discovery bottom out its front bumper on that angle at the bottom.. so any normal car has no chance..

Did the driver not notice the stairs and think that that maybe the sat nav was wrong?

Although people call SatNav's there's one thing you have to say - even if it get's you to your destination the long way round, it get's you there.
They aren't perfect but they're a bloody handy tool. Ofcourse common sense does help though.

Post it notes on the sun visor for me, google maps the night before then write the directions in short hand.

I use CoPilot Live on my iPhone it has to be the worst Sat Nav ever!
Fair enough it was only £19.99 but it tells you to turn at a junction when you are on that junction regardless of what speed you're doing.
It tells you that you are at your destination when you just aint.
Not a good thing to have when you deliver for Domino's luckily I know Sunderland quite well.
