If the plate is french style with an f at the start they are illegal.
If they are pressed plates with an e mark on, with a gb badge and gb lettering then they are legal.
If you cant afford to be insured with your mods on the car then dont fit them!

Basically inform them of everything that has changed its the only way to be properly insured. Even then they'll do their best to find something that wasn't so they can get out of paying out if they need to.
Edit, if he wants to strip it. Tell him to pay for the labour and the lost time he's caused you.

my thoughts exactly, i understand the plates, the zorst but y the colour change, altho, my red standard wheels do add 10bhp ;) lmao
TomT
13th February 2011, 22:21
an the declairing wheels is just because that's the law.
Pain in the arse though, I know someone who's insurance went up more for changing the color of the wheels then it would of for getting new rims.

I doubt tints, wheels and exhaust will add much.
Im 18 and delaring non standars alloys, exhaust, gearbox change, interior changes and lowering kit added about £150

They might argue that it makes it more desirable for thieves to target your car or leave it on bricks.
I think it's a bit silly personally, but that is what they may argue.

no i asked that, he explained that having french plates means im a french person visiting the uk, or the car is reg to a permenet address in france... which neither is thue so therefore im pretending to be french, so therefore its fraud appently... f**king idiot...
Morgzc
13th February 2011, 22:31
How is pretending to be someone fraud, you can't commit fraud unless money changes hands.
Fraud = obtaining money by deception, so unless french people get free money for driving...

Negative. Fraud is simply deception or trickery etc, not necessarily for financial gain, although more commonly for some form of gain.

Was 'fraud' not mentioned regarding your undeclared mods? If you're being sly and not declaring mods, then the last thing you want to do is attract attention with bright coloured wheels and illegal plates. If you've been pulled before and got away with undeclared mods, you should have declared them.
I'm pretty sure pressed metal plates are fine if they have the correct font and a postcode at the bottom. Number plates are never going to look pretty - I don't get why people spend so much money on fancy ones.

- He doesn't have the right to do that, has to be the DVLA.
- French plates are illegal, you can get legal metal pressed plates from dubmiester
- You won't get done for having different coloured wheels. So what about the decorators van that has some red paint up the side? :S.
What a load of shit.

Traffic get a hard on about number plates because their ANPR cameras don't read them. Thats probably where the fraud(?!) comes in to it?
If your driving with undeclared stuff then you need to make your car the least conspicuous on the road, not paint the wheels and have pressed plates.
"he said he has the right to seize car and strip it to look 4 turbo" <--- what a tosser. Didn't he think to take the 20 seconds at the road side while you were there?

Agree with you entirely, it's ridiculous, I hope I don't leave my car next to a green Saxo because blue is 'more desirable' and they might steal the whole car! I would argue that my STANDARD wheels are no more desirable because they are standard.. It's a joke, like fuck I'm going to declare my smoked headlights. Or my white interior or red brake callipers.

You should always declare your mods, I nearly learnt the hard way. Fortunatley I managed to convince them I had informed them (when I actually rang them just to find out how much they would all cost) but they had just not added them. I ended up paying the differnce from the date I'd made the call to the end of the policy before they would cover my claim. I knew what was coming as I'd taken it to their recommended body shop to have an estimate for a new door and repairs to paint around the door, and they just took a couple of photos of the damage, then loads of photos of my wheels, exhaust, manifold, etc...

QUESTION...
my french plates are illegal fact
pressed plates with euro E are legal fact
if i change my F to an E will they b legal??
pics of my plates are on progress thred on first page :)
cheers
Morgzc
14th February 2011, 16:53
No, because you also need the manufacturer info on the plate for them to be legal. Since yours are french they will have no info about who made them on the plate.
Buy some new ones from dubmeister.

You got declare every piece of paint wprk .. wont make much of a change to the price of your policy (i shouldnt think) but tis just for the fact that .. if you claim on your insurance for a smash up.. they'll just put it back to totally standard .. but if say you told them the specific our of your wheels they have to put them back to that colour.

Not true at all. They only have to replace the item with standard parts unless stated otherwise i.e you pay extra ontop of declaring mods to get like for like replacements on them. I tried to get this but I was too young so they wouldn't let me.
